SK Solutions Brings Real-Time Analytics to Operation Sites Globally

As the leading provider of anti-collision systems to major construction companies, SK Solutions plays a critical role in improving worker safety and productivity at construction sites around the world. Our SK Asteroid software platform uses data gathered from sensors embedded on cranes and construction vehicles to help construction companies and engineering firms prevent catastrophic accidents at project sites, shipyards, nuclear power plants and other facilities.

In response to customer demands for more powerful performance and productivity management tools, SK Solutions decided to upgrade Asteroid’s scalability and its ability to handle data from new sources. We also identified support for real-time information and predictive analytics as key capabilities to our new solutions.  To make this transformation, SK Systems partnered with SAP and the two companies entered into a Co-Innovation partnership to leverage SAP technology and expertise to create a powerful new Asteroid.

SAP’s SQL Anywhere data management and synchronization software was added at Asteroid’s embedded layer to enhance the software platform’s ability to capture and analyze real-time sensor data. Similarly, SAP’s Event Stream Processor technology was added at the edge layer of the SK Asteroid platform to help customers capture and stream data from multiple sites to a central location.

At the core of the solution is SAP HANA, integrating real-time streaming data and other data sources to enable in-the-moment views of asset saturation, equipment use and other key performance indications at construction sites. Previously, customers had to wait a week to get that data.

The integration of the two technology platforms has enhanced SK Solutions’ ability to provide accurate and timely information to construction equipment operators, fleet managers and senior construction managers. And, importantly, SAP HANA has also provided SK Solutions with a foundation for enabling robust predictive analytics capabilities which we believe will take collision avoidance to new heights...
