I agree with him and I would add that the amount of nonsense packing into the term "Big Data" doubles approximately every two days or two hours by IOT (Internet of Things).

Synopsis

" What should we write about?"

" It has to be something interesting and must not be tldr (too long didn't read)."

" I want to include some videos too, do you know that a picture says a thousand words?"

" He also said we must have more than 100 hits or likes. Should I write a script to get the hit?"

" Nah, on a second thought, I would not do that."

Those are the conversation bubbles going on during the #BCO6181 class after our lecturer; Tony de Thomasis announced about the one blog post we have to publish as part of the assessment. I turned to my right, she; my classmate Asma turned to her left. Then, she said, "Su, I want to write about IOT (Internet of Things)!". Being my usual self; "never say no", I replied, "Yes, let's do it!".

That's the brief background of how our blog began. The real deal start after that. What of IOT? Which IOT? ??? (Scratching my head)

Su: "oh, you know what, this IOT is a little bit of an eyesore to me.

Asma: "Why?"

Su: "I went to East Gippsland for Easter camp. I found out that they put the bait stations for forest animals near our camp ground to catch the cute           kangaroo, or possum on their camera. The bait station is equipped with motion sensor and the camera is turned on when they come closer.

              Geez, even in the forest, there's no privacy."

Asma: "hahaha"

Su: "Seriously, one of the camper got caught on the camera, because he was walking too close to the bait station. Thanks god! It was only his back side.           Haha. Anyway, let's do this. It's a good idea."

Asma: "Okay!" (Asma thought bubble: "Phew…finally, she stopped talking.)

Personal Opinion

My first semester at Victoria University in Melbourne, I was overdosed with the words such as 'Big Data', 'ERP', 'Business Process Re-engineering', 'Change Management', 'Organisational Behavioural', 'Organisational Change', 'Big Data', and 'BI'. I'm now in second semester and I am getting overdose with the following words and phrases like 'catalyst', 'the next big thing', 'in-memory computing', 'cloud', 'S4HANA', 'IOT', 'innovation',  and 'strategy'. As we come closer to the end of semester, I'm starting to think, why everyone use the word 'catalyst' and 'the next big thing' a lot? Can't they just use another word like 'ignitor'? (I actually did replace the word 'catalyst' with 'ignitor' in one of my essay. Just because I was overdose.)

Just last night I was talking to one of my classmate about IOT and he was like 'What's IOT?'. I was like 'Hooray! There's someone in my class who doesn't know what IOT is?'. So I guess there could still be someone in IT world who doesn't know what IOT is. For some of us who missed on this 'next big thing', the following TED talk will explain.

Whenever I think about the amount of nonsense that IOT is generating or packing into the 'Big Data', I always feel grateful for Hasso Plattner for his support on "Hasso's New Architecture"; HANA (the In-memory RDBMS). His support makes it easier  "to find a golden pin in the haystack" ~similarly~ "to get the useful insights from this 'Big Data' thingy".

When the current CIO of LeasePlan, Alfonzo Venturi came to #BCO6181 class as a guest speaker, he talked about the Disruptive innovation and he was really keen on technology and wearable thing like Apple Watch (I hope he gets his Apple Watch by now). Everybody know that innovation is creating something new that is valuable to the customers. Little do we know is another term called 'incremental innovation' (i.e., creating some add-ons from the existing things). Based on my readings, most people tend to choose incremental innovation as it is safe and less risk.

Anyway, what I wanted to say is that there may be some devices which generate nonsense but there are also devices which generate senses into the 'Big Data'. For example,

Roche Diabetes Care and SAP create App for personalized health management which helps to connect both patient and doctors and also help to prevent the diabetes.

Heidelberg University Hospital use SAP HANA Cloud Platform, SAP Mobile Platform, and SAP Lumira for connected health care.

Dutch Utilities company Alliander N.V uses SAP for their innovations, sustainability, and connecting with customers.

In the above three cases, the 'IOTs' are gathering senses and packing into the 'Big Data',then 'HANA' is helping to get insight and get people connected. The video below shows how SAP Connected Mining connects environment, equipment, and people by collecting, monitoring, analyzing real-time sensor data, helps mining companies run safer than before.

The following video had been showcased in the "4th International Conference on The Internet of Things" at MIT and collected the "Best Demonstration" award. This video really illustrates how the new digital ecosystem is transforming the world we live in today.

In conclusion, innovation is not something we must do as an extra, it is a necessity. IOT will generate both nonsense and senses but HANA is there with us to pick usefulness out of this nonsense. So, what are we waiting for, let's go to OpenSAP and enroll for SAP S/4 HANA to become a transformer :grin:
