The term ‘IoT’ (Internet of Things) is being written in bold letters almost everywhere we look these days. Undoubtedly it is part of current day hype as well, and there is a reason for that.

According to a McKinsey study, the areas in which we can expect to see IoT in our near future range from urban environments and moving vehicles, to commercial and manufacturing environments, up to becoming part of the human body and healthcare, and many more. It was found that, in order to reach 40 % of the potential value, IoT devices will have to be made interoperable and data being produced in any IoT scenarios will have to be exploited in a more effective manner. Interestingly, the potential IoT value in developing countries will be comparable to the value in advanced economies. Opportunities enabled through the use of IoT will encompass the possibility to transform business processes, as well as the enablement of new business models in general.

In consideration of this rapidly emerging trend, SAP is forging ahead to make customers successful by leveraging the aforementioned possibilities. In order to showcase some of them, SAP and ASUG have come together to deliver the Webcast series “Succeeding in an Increasingly IoT World”.

The first episode launched on October 7 (The Internet of Things and SAP: Getting Started with Solutions that Make a Difference), and served to explain how solutions that are IoT-centric or otherwise take advantage of it are developed by the SAP Customer Innovation & Strategic Projects  team in close collaboration with customers - the session elaborated on the process used to collaborate with customers on IoT and Big Data opportunities for business value and impact. Alongside Puneet Suppal (@puneetsuppal), the host of the webcast series and moderator, Raj Valame, VP for Product Strategy & Management at SAP Labs (@rajvalame), took a deep dive into these discussion points and introduced the vast portfolio of solutions available to customers looking to partner up with SAP Customer Innovation & Strategic Projects. The listeners found out about the impact customers have experienced through co-innovation in the past. Raj also outlined a map of the journey which awaits them if they choose to co-innovate with SAP.
