What if you let 5 of Acorel's best developers compete in a 24-hour race against another 5 of Acorel's best developers?

September 26-27th Acorel hosted their yearly Hackathon.

2 cases.

2 teams

1 winner.

Case 1: Smart mousetrap to serviceorder.

It might not be the first thing you think of in a typical IoT scenario, but even in pestcontrol IoT is a hot topic these days.

Periodically checking mouse- and rattraps might seem like an easy job, as these traps are developed with the idea they should ideally not catch anything.Taking only seconds per trap, costs are fairly low, and according to industry standards it should be done on a regular basis.

Especially in the food industry, mousetraps are placed as a 'last resort'. These traps are obviously not supposed to catch anything.

Imagine if the periodical checks could be done less frequent and every movement of a trap would be detected at realtime and have alarms go off if needed.

Team 1 got the assignment to forward the signal from the Xignal smart mousetrap by Dimo Systems to create a serviceorder is SAP Hybris Cloud for Customer.

With the serviceorder, the appropriate service engineer is sent to the location for inspection and appropriate actions.

Ingredients:

2 mousetraps

1 rattrap

1 SAP HCP IoT Service

1 SAP Hybris C4C

1 SAPUI5 Dashboard

Case 2: Connected Coffee.

We are all familiar with the following situation: You enter the office, and the coffee machine has broken down :-(. Annoying!

In an office environment, this is merely annoying, in restaurants and bars, this is obviously a number one priority.

Team 2 got the assignment to minimize this frustration.

What they came up with? A Raspberry Pi with a touchscreen and RFID reader detects that the coffee machine has broken down and reports to SAP HCP IoT.

SAP HCP IoT creates a serviceorder in SAP Hybris Cloud for Customer. A mechanic is assigned. The machine is added to his planning.

The touchscreen on the coffee machine shows that the mechanic is on his way.

Once the mechanic is on location, he logs in to the coffee machine with his RFID token and fixes the machine.

The serviceorder is automatically set to 'in progress'.

Once done, he closes the serviceorder by tapping the button on the touchscreen, and moves on to his next assignment.

The panicking coffee-addicts can relax again.

Ingredients:

1 Raspberry Pi

1 Touchscreen

1 RFID reader

1 RFID token

1 User Interface on the touchscreen

1 SAP HCP IoT service

1 SAP Hybris C4C

1 SAPUI5 Dashboard
