Leading-in to central, role-based access to all Test Activities
What actually is a Work Center in the SAP Solution Manager? And since when are tailored Work Centers available?
I will describe this briefly and then illustrate the Work Center TEST MANAGEMENT.
Well, the SAP Solution Manager itself is the central Application Lifecycle Management platform of SAP. SAP Solution Manager 7.0 EhP 1 marks the start of shipment of various Work Centers. They are central work environments that provide direct access to role-specific functions within Application Lifecycle Management. The structure of a Work Center depends on your role. You have access to relevant tasks, messages, test cases, alerts, reports, documents, and others for which your role is authorized. The number of Work Centers assigned to you depends on your tasks. To meet customer specific demands on data retrieval appropriate queries can be defined and various filter options can be used.

The Work Center TEST MANAGEMENT supports task-specific testing activities and is divided into the following views: Overview, Test Preparation, Business Process Change Analyzer, Test Plan Management, Tester Worklist, Test Evaluation, Settings, and Reports.
You make your preparations for test activities in the Test Preparation view. On the basis of projects or solutions, it is possible to assign manual and automated test cases and TBOMs (Technical Bill of Material) to the business process structure of the Business Blueprint or the Solution Directory. By doing so, you lay the foundation for creating or editing test plans in the Test Plan Management view. This is also the view in which you create test packages and test sequences, and assign them to testers. By activating workflow functionality testers will be informed when their test cases are ready to test.
The testers access the Tester Worklist and by choosing links they can enter the processing mode directly, e.g. read test documents and start the test relevant transactions or eCATT test configurations (Extended Computer Aided Test Tool for automated testing) straight and immediate from the test case. The advantage is that they do not need to be logged on to different applications. In case of detected errors during manual testing testers enter incidents in the form of Service Desk messages. This is put into effect via an integration with the SAP Solution Manager Service Desk being embedded in the Work Center INCIDENT MANAGEMENT.
Via the view Test Evaluation and Reports in the Work Center TEST MANAGEMENT quality managers and test organizers can use reporting functionality: Status Info System, and what is new and first of all available through the Work Center TEST MANAGEMENT: BI reporting analyses to access various graphic overviews and filter settings: Status Report, Progress Report, Message Report, Message Report by Priority.
And there is another view which initially came with the Work Center TEST MANAGEMENT: Business Process Change Analyzer (BPCA). You may have ask yourself reading this blog: What are TBOMs that can be assigned to the business process structure of the Blueprint or the Solution Directory and what do I need them for? So, TBOM stands for Technical Bill of Material and is a list of all SAP objects that are used when a business process step (e.g. a transaction) is executed. The BPCA identifies the potential impact of changes on critical Business Processes by the use of these TBOMs and thus makes a risk-based analysis on the source code and configuration at runtime. That way you can create test plans that are tailored exactly to the changes BPCA has specified.
Before deploying solution configuration changes to your production system landscape and thus making them available for your operative business processes, you must first test that all changes have been made correctly and do not have a negative impact on other business processes. For this challenge and purpose the Work Center TEST MANAGEMENT in SAP Solution Manager conducts you with comprehensive functions. A good mode to bolster End-to-End Business Continuity.
