In one of my previous posts I outlined the new features in Solution Manager 7.1 Feature Pack Two (Support Pack 10) including Usage and Procedure Logging

(UPL) now being extended to Custom Code Management.  UPL is also a key part of Solution Documentation Assistant (SolDocA), Business Process Change Analyzer (BPCA) and in the future Enhancement Pack Scope and Effort Analyzer.

So why is this important? UPL, as its name suggests, logs all the user activity and stores the information in BW. By capturing this data over a period of 3-12 months it can give a comprehensive view of what transactions, reports and function modules are being used and how frequently. This can then be analyzed to help reduce custom code (remove unused customization's), assess impact of change on processes, optimize testing scope (reduce cost) and confirm/maintain process design documentation.

By activating UPL in Solution Manager you will immediately start building the usage data and history on which to help utilize the above functions to reduce cost and improve reliability.
