New technology is great, but how to handle it? You have to gain new skills. And where to find the required information? There is an overwhelming number of repositories to search. Let’s take SAP HANA as an example: If you search for HANA in the SAP Community Network, you will get more than 20.000 results (discussions, blogs, Wikis, …), and more material is available in other repositories like SAP.com, SAP HANA Academy, SAP Help Portal, … So
where do you start?
Let’s assume your manager has just learned about SAP HANA and asks you to investigate if it would be useful for your company, but you haven’t yet had a chance to find out much about the SAP In-Memory Computing technology. You will easily find marketing material explaining all the benefits, but you will also need answers to questions like: How well will SAP HANA fit into our existing architecture? How do we transfer parts of our existing solution to SAP HANA? Which considerations are important for SAP HANA operations? Fortunately, the same questions have already been answered by many customers in their own SAP HANA projects, so why not benefit from these experiences?
SAP Active Global Support is aware of the importance of knowledge, and many of my colleagues have been involved in customer projects. They collected experiences and created best practices out of them. These best practices have been published in the SAP Enterprise Support Academy at http://support.sap.com/dbp4hana (log-in required). The first version has been available since September 2013. It has been used already more than 100.000 times, within the first six months. An updated version has just been published recently, to reflect the latest developments and experiences.
Let’s take a closer look at the content of the Deployment Best Practice for SAP HANA. It
is structured into five sections:
Deployment Best Practice for SAP HANA provides an introduction to the most important topics, but what if you need deeper knowledge? There are links to the more detailed documentation mentioned at the beginning of this blog, and you will discover that many activities are already integrated into the working environment of SAP Solution Manager that you might already know . And you have access to expert guidance in the SAP Enterprise Support Academy Learning Studio (log-in required).
