Transforming a CCOE to a cloud CCOE

The Transition from on premise CCOE to a cloud supporting CCOE is a task which will be on the plate for many customers in the near future. The CCOE itself will stay in the organization of the customer, but the supported products, landscape, systems and responsibilities will change.

This will become one of the most under estimated challenges for an IT organization. As we, SAP, have begun our journey to be a cloud company; other customers are still at the beginning.

We can talk with our customers about a new brave world and how their business will benefit on moving the complete or parts of the on premise infrastructure to the cloud. We will also ensure, that everything is working fine. Then the customer will ask us about his processes and how can he support this setting from now on. Some parts will be covered from SAP, but other parts will remain on customer site.

These thoughts need consideration from the first minute on, starting when the customer is talking about a cloud move. This will influence the operational mode on customer side. If they start to think about it, after they have shifted their ERP to the HEC, it is a little bit too late, obviously!

After assessing many customers about CCOE and their IT operations, almost none customer has thought about the future.

This blog will be used to demonstrate on an example use case how these changes will affect our customers and will focus on special topics.

We will also use the already existing models from the AGS and they will be used to create a roadmap for an easy adaption on customer side. It will be also a focus on the tool question. The preferred tool will be SAP Solution Manager and its capabilities.

But, we have to do this before the customer moves “something” to the cloud. We also have to emphasize this topic at our customers. We can help them to transform their IT organization from a normal department to a service provider and they are the drivers of a cloud movement.

Challenges:

The move of more products from an on-Premise Solution to a cloud based solution. Not all products can go into a cloud environment because of legal requirements. Especially for certain industries such as financial providers and banks, some challenges will rise and they need a solution, otherwise these customers will never move to a cloud based environment.

What are the benefits to move to the cloud?

Now is the time to ask some other, more critical questions:

What impact will a “Cloud-Move” have on my IT Organization?

Which process need a change, to be more productive?

Are more resources necessary?

Most important: How can the customer ensure the stability of a complete Application Lifecycle Management in a hybrid solution?
