I had been studying Computer Science in Trinity College Dublin since 2009. Throughout college I just wanted to work in an open environment that let me pursue my job in a way that enabled me continue to learn and experiment with new solutions. I hadn’t considered SAP until Tony O’Donnell came to speak in  Trinity to recruit new interns. From that talk it seemed that SAP was everything I was looking for in an employer. Within a week of that talk I had gotten in touch with Tony, had an interview for the internship, was offered and accepted a 6 month placement.

I completed my internship working as part of the Design and Frontline Applications team in the AppHaus in Dublin. Over the course of my internship I had the opportunity to work in nearly every aspect of development. From designing new and interesting User Interfaces, to testing applications, even working on SAP’s database platform Hana, there wasn’t an aspect I felt I lacked experience in. Towards the end of my internship I was lucky enough to be offered a full time position as a developer in the team, an offer which I readily accepted.

Working within the team structure here in Dublin has been one of the best experiences I’ve had programming. The structure provided here ensures a very strict process, allowing for more freedom and creativity in development. The AppHaus environment also ensures there are no impediments to expressing creativity. Any idea you have can be expressed visually as fast as possible by writing on almost every surface in the office. As a developer, I couldn’t ask for more in a workplace than the AppHaus offers.
