Innovation has many forms. The customers of Supply Network Collaboration (SAP SNC) are happy with the wide range of collaborative tools that are available “out of the box”. SAP SNC offers a 360-degree view on supply chain collaboration, which helps companies to effectively collaborate with their customers, suppliers, third-party logistics providers, and outsourced manufacturing partners.

Recently, our customers started to use SAP SNC with increased data volumes, so the response times of our screens were also increasing…

Our goal was to utilize the advantages of the latest database technologies, and deliver improved performance to our customers. Faster database and optimized application logic result in greatly reduced response times of our screens. To achieve the best possible performance, we recommend using a column-oriented database management system like the SAP HANA database.

We have optimized the purchase order process from end to end for high data volumes. The same optimizations have been delivered for the Quick View and the Alert Monitor cross-application functions. This was a meticulous work that required persistence, since each screen had its own architecture, and we always had to find new ways to reach our goals. We were using various tools from SQL level optimization to the complete redesign.

It feels good to demonstrate performance that seemed to be unreachable before. For example, on standard database, the alert monitor times out while it is loading 1 million alerts, now it loads within 1 second. The Quick View screen loads for roughly 90 seconds with high amount of data on a standard database, but it loads only within 5 seconds on SAP HANA DB.

Altogether these performance enhancements make the work of a supply chain planner more productive. The planners have fast access to analytical data, and can act quickly through the end-to-end optimized purchase order process. Let them be customer or supplier end users, the waiting time reductions mean the same: more focus on business.

Since performance improvements are clearly perceivable, demoing is easy and the customers are really impressed.
