SAP , making freshers RUN better

When it came time for placements, like every fourth year student,  I was nervous .We were worried about where will we get our first job, but deep inside we also feared entering the new phase of life , the “corporate life ”, we wondered what it would be like: Will it be harsh? Will we be able to adjust into it?  This feeling is completely normal, and some companies actually take steps to make their new hires comfortable and relaxed from the day the results of the interviews are announced, and SAP is one of these companies.

SAP knows what it needs, which gives it a leading edge in the start itself. They look for graduates who are creative, think outside the box and keep track of what’s inside it as well ,  along with this have the willingness to learn something new. On the day of my interview before our results were being compiled, the technical interviewing team sat with us in the lobby, we discussed politics, new technology and even general things that ranged from where we came from, to our opinion about the organization. It didn’t feel like we were meeting them for the first time, at all.  At every stage, when the result was declared the reason for not selecting the student was also told so that he/she can work on it before appearing for any other company.

Just for the fact that the early talents do not feel nervous on their first day to office, SAP fresher’s day was organized, we were all called to Bangalore, the company paid for our flight tickets and our stay, yes! Free flight ticket for a person who has not even graduated from college  . This shows how much a company cares for its new joinees . We met new people, the company’s management and even saw the office and it surely helped us to lower down our nervousness on our first day at office.

A month after that we received welcome gifts which were couriered to our permanent addresses ,  which included chocolates , a diary,  a calendar and a note from our then MD enlightening how SAP will the best choice as our 1st company.

Now you may say that a box of chocolates, free air ticket and free stay, a dinner after the interview results, so what, that’s nothing big, any company can do it and yes you all are right, any company can, the question is do they actually do it?

SAP made the early talents feel special even before the joined or signed a bond/contract. We as fresher’s then had no obligation towards the company and could have rejected that offer whenever we wanted. Also SAP invested in its new talents without knowing how much impact will each of us have on the company or will anyone take company to new heights. This all happened because SAP trusts its employees and trust is something very hard to get. Yes what all was done to make us feel special were small gestures, but it’s the small things that count don’t they?
