Recently, SAP announced an important partnership with Apple to revolutionize the way we do enterprise mobile applications. But what does this partnership entail concretely? To better answer this questions, let's look at the rationale and elements of the partnership.

76% of business transactions touch an SAP system while 98% of Fortune 500 companies are using iOS devices. Together, SAP and Apple bring an ideal partnership to truly transform how businesses around the world are run on iPhone and iPad. On top of that, there is a global community of 2.5M SAP developers. These developers can build powerful native applications and deploy easily on HANA Cloud Platform (HCP) using the SAP HANA Cloud Platform SDK for iOS and harness the capabilities offered by the iOS devices such as 3D Touch or Touch ID.

SAP Canada already saw the potential of the partnership and wants be a major player in it, leveraging the expertise of the several development and sales teams thus positioning itself as a thought leader in mobility and innovation. SAP Canada is in a position to offer its customers the information and knowledge about the partnership details and core applications soon to be available. The engagement of the Canadian office this early in the partnership will allow its customers to adopt the next generation business mobile applications as early as possible making them run simple.

Let’s go into a bit more details. The partnership currently consist of four elements:

1. A new set of iOS apps

New applications based on core and high demand scenarios have already been defined to be developed as part of the partnership.

2. The SAP HANA Cloud Platform SDK for iOS

The SAP HCP SDK for iOS will give, to anyone doing development of SAP iOS native applications, access to key building blocks including UI assets following the Fiori for iOS design language, access to backend services, easier access to iOS capabilities and devices services, etc.

3. Fiori for iOS

To make sure that the developed applications are providing a user experience at the level of what SAP and Apple can provide, a new UX, Fiori for iOS, has been created. SAP Fiori for iOS is our interpretation of how these values and principles can be implemented best for the iOS platform. We are adapting our design language, SAP Fiori, to the iOS platform for a great native app experience, made for mobile on iPhone and iPad.

4. The SAP Academy for iOS

The SAP Academy for iOS will be used to create a new class of highly skilled developers. It will provide designers and developers with the knowledge, tools, education and training needed to build a new class of mobile apps that take full advantage of the new SDK, SAP HANA Cloud Platform and Fiori for iOS UX, and the latest features of Apple hardware and software.

Everyone across Canada will have the opportunity to be part of this partnership, including SAP developers, partners and customers. We will be able to define a standard for how mobile applications should be in the industrial world with these new applications deployed on the HANA Cloud Platform.

We are still very early and many new things will come as part of this incredible partnership. More updates will be sent when available. For any questions about the partnership details or the upcoming applications, don’t hesitate to contact me.
