The Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), the University of Potsdam and the SAP® Innovation Center Network are partnering with the SAP University Alliances program to launch an academic innovation network in Berlin and Potsdam to expand opportunities for the SAP SE (NYSE: SAP) ecosystem and to accelerate innovation with academia.
The network helps SAP customers across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and beyond to benefit from digital transformation thought leadership of world-class faculties, and to connect with students who, as next-gen designers, developers, data scientists, makers, entrepreneurs and business leaders, can reimagine business with disruptive designs and prototype apps, leveraging SAP HANA® Cloud Platform, and soon with Apple® iOS. The announcement was made at the 21st SAP Academic Conference EMEA being held on September 5–9, 2016, in Potsdam, Germany.

Networking opportunities will be enhanced via new SAP Next-Gen Lab spaces at member campuses of SAP University Alliances globally as well as at SAP locations including Walldorf, and in New York in partnership with HPI.

The delegation of 23 faculty members from 3 countries and 15 leading universities of CIS joined the event in Hasso-Plattner Institute and Potsdam University, Prof. Dr, Igor Belousov and Dr. Yury Kupriyanov, announced on the main stage of the event the launch of Next-Gen Spaces in 2 CIS universities by the end of 2016 and presented a road-map of enablement activities to build innovation academic network engaging local customers and partners and fostering digital transformation in regional higher education.
On September 5, 2016 during the Visionary Award Ceremony of Global SAP University Alliances, Andrej Bievetski, MD at SAP Labs in CIS, and Dzherard Khappi, Bauman Moscow State Technical University (BMSTU) MSc-student, were invited on stage to present the collaborative project of BMSTU, SAP Labs CIS and SAP University Alliances CIS on Industry 4.0, distributive production and industrial IoT. Initiated in July 2015 as a summer internship project of PhD and MSc-students in D-Shop of SAP Labs CIS, the cooperation with BMSTU evolved first into creation of a curriculum on Industrial IoT and then into a complex expo-booth on Industry 4.0 showcasing the scenario on distributed manufacturing, which earlier this year attracted attention of the Russian prime-minister Dmitry Medvedev and Russian ICT minister Nikolay Nikiforov at the major technological exhibitions.
SAP University Alliances CIS team also moderated and participated in the expert tables at the SAP Academic Conference: (1) SAP University Alliances Innovation Network EMEA, (2) Industry 4.0, Internet of Things, and Maker Innovation Network EMEA and (3) SAP Young Thinkers Network. The former expert tables involved showcasing the results of the joint project with BMSTU but with respective focus while at the latter expert table the curricula for high schools «Digital Enterprise of the Future» developed locally by CIS strategic stream «Happiness for Citizens».
SAP University Alliances opens up the world of SAP to more than 2,800 educational institutions in 103 countries worldwide. It aims to develop critical skills for the digital enterprise among academics, university students and young thinkers, and to build the bridge to executives and professionals. On the global map of SAP University Alliances Russia and CIS region are presented by 87 universities from 7 countries.
