Perhaps you've heard of Humans of New York (HONY), the five-year-old vibrant photograph-blog-turned-#1-New-York-Times-best-selling-book run by a man named Brandon that provides a worldwide audience with daily glimpses into the lives of the people in New York City. Inspired by HONY, we decided to do our own spinoff and call it Humans of SAPsv. Each week, through the end of December, we'll feature three employees complete with their picture, name, title, Twitter handle, and snippets of their passion for SAP, their commitment to their colleagues and community, and what inspires them both inside and outside of SAP.

If you're interested in the chance to be featured in Humans of SAPsv, please email Magen Mintchev. Enjoy learning more about your colleagues and share your comments below!

What are you passionate about at SAP?

I’m passionate about learning about new technologies and how they can be converted into commercial value. It’s very interesting to see how digital technologies create value for their end users.

What’s your favorite thing about working at SAP?

I like being part of such a high performing and intellectual environment. I’m a big supporter of the saying “Never be the smartest person in the room…” as well as surrounding yourself with people brighter than you, which is very easy to do here. I also love the fact that there is always something new to learn. With the massive amounts of learning material on Success Map and Jam, I never find myself with nothing to do.

What’s something not many people would know about you?

I’m a huge proponent of playing sports. I played basketball all my life then later added in track and cross country. I can still vividly remember how tired my legs would be after a meet; the 200m sprint is probably the most physically demanding thing I’ve ever done. Now I’m not so active, but I still enjoy playing ball every now and then.

What’s your favorite hobby?

It may sound generic, but honestly my favorite hobby is simply going to the gym and working out. I think physical performance is just as important as mental performance. Unless it’s cardio, because running is just the worst.

What are you passionate about at SAP?

I am passionate about customer service. I really enjoy the feeling of having a helped solve a problem.

What’s your favorite thing about working at SAP?

SAP is a place that draws people from all over the world. I get to meet and interact with some of the most interesting people on a daily basis.

If you could do anything you wanted right now, what would it be?

If there was anything I could be doing right now, it would have to be laying in a hammock on a beach in Guatemala.

What’s one bucket list item?

One of the items on my bucket list is to design and build a car from start to finish.

What are you passionate about at SAP?
Learning and teaching. I very much enjoy being able to learn and then deliver information in a comprehensible manner. There is so much in the way of processes and standards at SAP that it can be confusing to new acquisitions and sometimes overwhelming to get a grasp on. It’s partly why I became a WIPS trainer, Compliance Coordinator, BCP Power user, and a member of the Process Review board. I want to understand and then be able to help my team and coworkers in also understanding.

What’s your favorite thing about working at SAP?

Definitely the people. I very much enjoy and appreciate my coworkers and have had a blast breaking out of my support silo and meeting other people in the SAP community. I have a mentor who challenged me to “ meet 21 people in 21 days”, which turned out to be an extremely rewarding exercise. I recommend it to everyone. The next time you see someone at SAP you’ve never really met before (more than just a head nod or saying ‘hi’ in the hallway, take a moment to stop and meet that person). Exchange names, ask what they do here and maybe share something about yourself at SAP. To break the ice of any ‘weirdness’ that might occur in such an interaction, be honest. Just say you’re trying to break out of your silo and meet fellow SAP people. You might be surprised by the people you meet and it’s a great way to practice getting yourself comfortable with new social situations.

What’s one bucket list item?

Visit Japan. More specifically, visit the Abe no Seimei and Inari shrines in Japan, and stay at an onsen (traditional inn built around and featuring a hot spring).

If you could do anything you wanted right now, what would it be and why?

If I’m going to push the boundaries, the answer would be along the far-out scope of being a Superhero (Marvel/DC comics with superpowers), or maybe explore the galaxy after having been recruited by friendly aliens, etc. For an answer that’s little more grounded: be on vacation and either on my way to visit Japan or have a staycation and work on my house and backyard backed by a huge budget (that kitchen isn’t going to remodel itself).
