Global Finance Shared Services (GFSS) is a valuable department at SAP operated by highly engaged and skilled people creating value for customers such as business partners and internal stakeholders alike.

GFSS is responsible for the shared delivery activities of the key finance processes at SAP such as Order-to-Invoice Software & Maintenance, Order-to-Invoice Consulting & Education, Procure-to-Pay, Travel & Expenses, Record-to-Report, and Cash Collections.

Renowned for its operational excellence throughout SAP, GFSS delivers cost-efficient and high-quality services, optimizes processes and locations, and focuses on the development of the people in their departments.

The global teams with a combined staffing of 1200+ people are highly diverse comprising of over 65 nationalities! With departments in Singapore, Dublin (Ireland), Prague (Czech Republic), Manila (Philippines), and Buenos Aires (Argentina), GFSS is currently hiring in most of those locations.

GFSS offers employees great opportunities to advance in their careers. Employees in GFSS departments have visibly moved up the GFSS hierarchy into managerial positions, relocated across locations, or moved across the Company into new opportunities thanks to the initial experience they gained.

SAP puts huge effort into creating a workplace that attracts motivated, creative, and forward-thinking employees who are ready to help the world run better and improve people’s lives and the GFSS teams are no exception.

One such employee, Livia, began her career as a fresh university graduate over 10 years ago when SAP recruited her from her native Slovakia to Prague, Czech Republic to embark on her career journey. Starting out in an entry-level position as a Finance Operation Specialist, Livia worked her way up through various managerial roles to become the Commercial Director, at SAP headquarters in Walldorf, Germany.

During her first year at SAP, Livia worked as a Finance Operations Specialist for the Education Billing team. One year later, she became a team manager for the Education Billing department and it was her first experience with people management. Livia kept an open mind for opportunity and proactively approached the global Project Management organization lead who steered her into her first part-time job as a project manager, which she later took over full-time.

As Livia was still thinking about her next steps in terms of career growth, SAP opened its mighty arms of opportunity once again. Livia was offered the chance to move to the SAP headquarters in Walldorf, Germany as Senior Project Consultant. Livia finally wanted to experience the third pillar of the Finance organization and ended up joining the Field Finance organization.

Last year, Livia was promoted to Commercial Director, where she is now leading her team members, getting to know her stakeholders, improving the status quo, and inspiring others.

“The approach to one’s career is a very personal decision influenced by tons of various aspects,” Livia said, “Make use of the self-development opportunities that SAP offers in various trainings or through coaching/mentoring/peer exchange. Everything is now organized in a transparent way and you can reach many learning resources if you just look around for them.”

So, what would other GFSS employees recommend to you if you’re considering a position in one of their departments?

We can go on and on about telling you why a career at SAP is worthwhile, but if you were thinking about a career with us already anyway, why not check out the open GFSS positions* in your area while you’re at it?!
