Some time ago, the IT journalist and blogger Jürgen Donauer wrote in Germany's popular IT magazine Computerwoche: "YaST (Yet Another Setup Tool) is without doubt one of the greatest strengths of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES). This graphic configuration tool is intuitive and easy to use, and it produces quick results. In this respect, SLES is one step ahead of many other Linux distributors." Thousands of satisfied customers and partners of SUSE who have successfully used AutoYaST for years prove Jürgen Donauer right.

The AutoYaST technology from SUSE forms the basis of the Installation Wizard, which is supplied to SAP customers with SLES for SAP Applications. This installation assistant offers administrators an automated workflow with which they can install SLES and SAP applications – more or less in one go. It covers almost all of the necessary tasks, from partitioning the hard drive to selecting the relevant package, to tuning the Linux operating system. Users can perform any additional workflow steps that are required via small, custom AutoYaST XML files.

Also Suitable for SAP BusinessOne HANA

The Installation Wizard was developed in close collaboration between SUSE and the SAP LinuxLab,  in which SAP has promoted Linux-based developments with its partners for years. This tool can be used to install SAP applications based on SAP NetWeaver® and is included in SLES for SAP Applications.

For SAP BusinessOne on HANA®, it is available to partners for the installation of SLES, HANA, and BusinessOne.

The Installation Wizard powered by AutoYaST consists of three parts:

  1. Minimal OS installation
    • With AutoYaST or SUSE Studio Image
  2. Preparation: Choose the SAP application.
    • Copy the SAP media for later installation.
    • Request the necessary parameters for SAP installation.
    • Enter the necessary OS parameters depending on the SAP application selected.
    • Install the necessary OS packages depending on the SAP application selected.
  3. SAP installation
    • Partition depending on the SAP application selected.
    • "Dark" install the SAP application.

Since all three steps can be carried out separately, administrators are able to repeat installations very easily.
