If you participate in the small and medium-sized businesses (SMB) market, you know the intensity of competition and the importance of staying agile to compete effectively. Information technology helps companies stay agile by empowering the employee, the department and the lines of business with information – the key to power.

Unleashing the power of information is most effectively accomplished through self-service business intelligence at the desktop. Only then does the power of turning information into action have a direct and immediate effect on results.

SAP plays a significant role in empowering the employee with desktop self-service business intelligence. According to the Forrester Wave report, Advanced Data Visualization Platforms, Q3 2012, “SAP continues to enrich its ADV (advanced data visualization) capabilities with the recent introduction of SAP Visual Intelligence software, which allows employees, departments and lines of business to creatively visualize and analyze information and apply it to individual and group decision-making.” (See my previous post, SAP addresses Big Data for the SMB.)

The SAP Visual Intelligence application’s point and click interface and engaging visualizations allow the employee to quickly analyze data for rapid time to insight and business agility – no scripting required.

Model the Impact of Change with Interactive Dashboards

Through SAP Crystal Dashboard Design, SAP provides employees with the ability to explore the insight of big data on a single screen with “what-if” testing of future business scenarios. The application creates interactive dashboards from many data sources – like Microsoft SQL, Adobe LiveCycle, SAP Crystal Server or any XML-compliant database – with point-and-click ease.

With these insights, your employees can confidently plan for the future. And dashboards are easy to share and can deliver insights across your business with export functions to Microsoft Office, Adobe formats, and the Web.

See for yourself. SAP’s Dashboard Gallery has great dashboard examples for finance, sales, human resources, and more – many of them submitted by our community of users. There’s even one for tracking UFOs!

The SMB must continue to take innovative steps to stay informed and agile in a growing competitive market. Putting the power of information in the hands of the employee is one of those critical steps.
