This was an ASUG webcast this past week.  The webcast included a demo of future functionality to Lumira, subject to change, so this legal Disclaimer applies:

Source: SAP

Part of the demo included copying from the web to a clipboard and bringing it into Lumira using World Cup data from a web site.

Figure 1 – Source: SAP copy paste

Figure 1 shows the highlighted text to be copied to the clip board.

Figure 2: Source: SAP

Figure 2 shows the new source “Copy from Clipboard” when launching Lumira (not released yet).

Figure 3: Source: Lumira

Figure 3 shows removing spaces. It reminded me a little of Stanford’s Data Wrangler Data Wrangler with Lumira - for Cleaning and Transforming Data

This functionality will allow you to bring in referential data from the web

Figure 4: Lumira

Figure 4 shows when you copy from the clipboard recognizes it as a table

Figure 5: Source: SAP

Figure 5 shows planned new merge features, including merging on multiple keys, inner and outer joins.

Data mashups  will allow you to combine enterprise data with the web

Figure 6: Source: SAP

Figure 6 shows the new boards layout style

Additionally multi-key merges are coming along with custom groups and new ways to animate

Figure 7: Source: SAP

Figure 7 shows new options for right-clicking on an existing visualization – copy to clipboard and create a new dataset

Figure 8: Source: SAP

Figure 8 shows what is planned for the future – looking to achieve and subject to change

The plan is to take two functionalities of BI4 and Lumira Server and make one repository

Figure 9: Source: SAP

Figure 9 shows the new tab going forward and you can see all exposed datasets and storyboards

You can explore those datasets like you have done in the past with Lumira Server and Cloud

It is similar to Explorer

It solves problems of data refreshes and snapshots

Lumira desktop can tie into BI4 investment with universes

Question and Answer

Q: Can Lumira be used without HANA?

A: Desktop can be used

If want Lumira Server, you need HANA as it is built on HANA

_______________________________________________________________

Q: Can you talk about how Lumira custom objects will be transported?

A: Today – Lumira Desktop is tailored towards agile approach

Focus has not been on governed promotion management

Lumira Server – as move forward – expect functionality of promotion management to fall to HANA server

Integration with BI – new BI4x integration – then offload enterprise readiness to BI platform

_______________________________________________________________

Q:  What version of Lumira you are showing here?  As I see some different joins for the merging which is not available with 1.15

A: Showing an internal build of Lumira Desktop (disclaimer on future functionalities applies), these features will be made available in releases post 1.15.

_______________________________________________________________

Q:  Many demonstrated functions are done in MS Excel today by business analysts. Why did SAP decided to build a new desktop tool vs. insure best possible integration of SAP datasources with MS Excel ?

A: Functionalities such as complex merging are MUCH easier to perform in the Lumira.  Others such as doing aggregating merge down is very clumsy in Excel.  We want to make those tasks that are critical to data mashup a cinch.  At the same time some feature overlap is necessary to avoid feature partition leading to constant switching of tools by the user. Remember Lumira is really about democratization of data, and making analysis much more approachable.  We do have more advanced analytical tools dealing with hierarchical data such as Analysis for Office that provides a direct Excel integration, and those seeking such integration and more advanced workflows should consider Analysis for Office.

________________________________________________________________

Q:  So the team member access to the cloud is also free or is there a fee for this abiliity? And 1gb limit applies to the team or per person within the team?

A: Yes anyone can sign up for a free account on Lumira cloud.  And each individual will be allotted 1 GB of storage.  Assets can then be shared private or publicly (literally anyone) via the Lumira Cloud portal or via a URL.

_______________________________________________________________

Q:  When working with Lumira, can you save your Lumira (.LUM) file directly in our BOBJ server for display on a mobile device or is it only available from the SAP Lumira Cloud?

A:  in order for you to view the story board in SAP Mobi APP - you need to publish the story to Lumira Server or Cloud. Saving the Lums file allows you to share the Lumira document with others. Lumira add-on for BIP is planned not GA yet.

________________________________________________________________

Q:  What version of Lumira is the InfoGraphic storyboard introduced?

A:  It is planned for the next release

________________________________________________________________

Q:  When is Lumira 1.16 going to be released? Also for Lumira Server, do you have to install that on your SAP HANA instance or a separate server?

A:  Yes, Lumira server needs to be deployed in HANA. SP16 is still under development will be released in end of May or middle of June

________________________________________________________________

Q:  Are there any limitations of reporting features for BW data (cubes, query)?

A:  will be available in the near future – will soon  support BEx queries

A:  Currently, you need to use universe to connect to BW data. direct connectivity to BW is planned and will be available in near future.

________________________________________________________________

Q:  I wasn't clear, you can publish to BI 4 now as an information space or that functionality is coming?

  A:  Available today

________________________________________________________________

Q:  1) Can Lumira be used without HANA  - i.e non-HANA ?SAP BW  2) What are the existing BW/BOBJ products Lumira will be replacing ?  3) How Lumira custom Objects/application will be migrated transported from Dev to QA and Prod ? 4)  What minimum HANA Release

A:  1) desktop mashup does not require HANA and you can still share via Lumira cloud.  If you want to use Lumira Server you require HANA

A:  2) not replacing, Lumira part of the BI strategy.  Mirrors Explorer and Views - functionality moving to Lumira

A:  3) product focus for desktop has not been on promotion management.  For Lumira server it falls on Hana management

A:  4) minimum HANA release for Lumira server will be answered by Sougata

________________________________________________________________

Q:  storyboard on server – in order to refresh, you would have to recreate from desktop and re-publish or can be refreshed from server/cloud?

A:  story boards uses on-line fresh data, if using mash-up or off line you would need to refresh  Refresh LUM file

________________________________________________________________

Q:  can you display data via universe on top of BW cube?

  A:  yes

________________________________________________________________

Q:  if we are trying to share information within a department, how does the cloud work? All logins are somehow linked together for a company?

A:  you can setup a team in the cloud and provide team members access.

_______________________________________________________________

Q:  Is there any way share a single storyboard with personalized / secure dataset? (e.g. restricted by a key dimension)

A:  data authorizations are managed using the data sources.
