The DataViz team at SAP decided to take a look at the top players in the upcoming NBA draft and see how their statistics stacked up against each other. Looking purely at statistics there was an easy argument for Andrew Wiggins (Kansas), Jabari Parker (Duke), and Joel Emiid (Kansas) as the favorites to go number one in this year’s draft.
Looking at historical stats on NBA draft picks shows the number one pick are typically a center or power forward position. Here’s a visualization of the number one picks over the past 20 years.
This radar chart view gives insight on the DNA of each of the top picks and how they compare in certain statistical categories to analyze who wins out at a quick glance. When looking at this view we can see Wiggins and Parker as clear leaders and have the best collective DNA when looking across offensive and defensive statistics.
