New Story Page Interaction Options in 1.27 Release
By now, you should have heard that SAP Lumira 1.27 has released. Did you know that story viewing has reached a whole new level in unified story layout, as all features you once saw in Story boards, infographics and reports are now consolidated? In this blog, I would like to highlight a few key features in story viewing interactions.
Input Controls
Combo-box Style: Those who are familiar with the input controls in the old story board layout will love the newly added interactive filtering capabilities. In 1.27, a new combo-box style is added to the existing list-box style. This new resizable combo-box style input control actually takes up less space by providing a popup for the LOV (list of values). Now you can use the extra space for a bigger visualizations. See screen shots below:

The combo-box is the default style for input controls. In case of more than 10 members in the dimension, the input control will contain a search box to help find members more quickly.
Filtering across Multi-datasets
Another input control feature that is worth mentioning is its ability to filter on more than one dataset in a story page. Suppose you have a visualization that is based on Sales by Country on the sales dataset, and a second visualization on Gross Margin by Country from the expenditure dataset.
You can now have one input control that can apply the same filter on both datasets, provided both datasets have the same dimension names and data types. In the case where the dimension names are different you can still establish the filter relationship by clicking on the “edit affected datasets” option in the input control’s properties (see screen shot below).
This option allows you to set the same filter value on a similar dimension in the second dataset. In the screen shot below, I have an input control on the dimension country from the first dataset. I am linking this dimension to CNTRY in the second dataset. So, when I select country = "USA" in the input control, I will also be applying a second filter when CNTRY="USA" in the second dataset.
Added Visualization Interactions
Filter and Exclude Filters:
Besides using the input controls for filtering, you can also interact with the visualizations by selecting data points in the chart, and applying a filter using the filter/exclude option in the popup context menu in the view mode. You can even apply a filter or an exclude filter on a bunch of data points by clicking and dragging across multiple data points (like doing a lasso). This interaction of applying a filter is also extended to chart legends. Just click on one or more labels in the legend and you will see the same context menu appearing.
Drilling:
If the visualization is based on hierarchical dimensions, you will be able to use the Drill Down option in the popup context menu to drill into the next level in the hierarchy. This level of interaction allows analysts to dig deeper into the makeup of a specific data point. For example, in the case of geographic hierarchy, drilling into a country can reveal the data at the regional/state level. To return to the previous drill state, you can select the Drill Up context menu, the Drill Back icon in the chart toolbar, or select the Undo button in the upper right corner of the window.
The above filter/exclude and drill features were originally available in the Visualize room and for story board layout, and is now available in the unified story layout.
