This was the first time that I attended the SAP TechEd which is a premier technical education conference held in India for all the IT professionals of the SAP Community. The event of SAP TechEd Bengaluru, 2013 was started with the keynote from the Member of the Executive Board, Products and Innovation, SAP AG, Dr. Vishal Sikka.

Dr. Sikka started his speech by referring a wonderful picture which depicts a natural way of networking of a river is taken and modified by one of his colleagues.

During the event’s keynote SAP HANA took the dominance in the entire speech.

Being 3 years old in SAP world SAP HANA made a huge and successful revolution in case of database performance, big data analysis, in-memory technology etc. By the month of April , 2014 SAP has a plan to make SAP HANA jumping from 3.5 Billion scan/second/core to 5 Billion Scan/second/core with the help of Intel Haswell processor.

Leaders from SAP Partners and customers joined Dr. Sikka on the stage to share their success stories of implementing SAP HANA.

In this event SAP made some genuine announcement like turning SAP to an open source development community to make the developers’ work easier.

Product leads from SAP River product development team has shown some impactful demonstration to showcase SAP River which is a new development language and environment to speed up the native app development on SAP HANA.

SAP Lumira team has shown how easily SAP Lumira can

  • visually navigate data with interactive charts and maps
  • transform and manipulate data
  • use excel & CSV data sources
  • connect to database servers
  • share the data set via business object explorer
  • perform analysis on live data with SAP HANA

During this keynote SAP announced SAP UI5 available and open for developers and named it as Open UI5. To encourage more developers to try UI5, SAP made the UI5 development toolkit available as open-source on GitHub under an Apache 2.0 license. The story does not end here. In this event SAP also talks about another new UI design approach which is called SAP Fiori to design and create UI using SAP UI5 library and toolkit.SAP Fiori helps the developer to make the user interface simple, build a delightful business responsive user interface efficiently.

Being an SAP MII consultant and new in SAP UI5 I found this GitHub very useful to start any development with some small Poc (Proof Of Concept).

Last but probably not least, the announcement of SAP PowerBuilder 15 Beta and Ganges.

SAP Ganges is a HANA-based product rethinking of the Indian retail industry supply chain. As the product name suggests it’s having a strong network like Indian River Ganges and it is targeting supply chain of FMCG companies operating in India for millions of kirana (corner) stores, thousands of distributors, poor roads and logistics services.

SAP Ganges is also emerged with cloud, analytic and mobile technologies.

Along with the introduction and announcement for these new technologies there was a huge scope to enrich and upgrade your skill set from hundreds of Educational breakout sessions.

Being an SAP MII consultant I was mostly attending the sessions regarding SAP Mobility especially UX Strategy and UI Roadmap, SAP Overall Equipment Effectiveness Management, SAP HANA Database performance.

I would also like to share something about the guest for this event as well . For SAP TechEd, Bengaluru, 2013 former Indian cricketer and skipper Sourav Ganguly was invited for Day 1 evening.

The craze about his appearance on the TechEd stage was really a surprise for the foreign delegates.

There is no need to say how successful he is in every domain of his life. But the way he correlated his profession rather all the professions to our IT profession through his speech was so encouraging for any professional.
