SWISS Property is a really unique company that is a true innovator in the residential building and construction industry. They are using digital transformation techniques to re-imagine their business model.  I encourage you to check them out.  They are “run by entrepreneurs and professionals with expertise in all fields covering the entire property lifecycle – adopting automotive principles in prefab production, digitalization and lean methodology in all stages.”

See a recent interview with SWISS Property and Rob Enslin about their work.

They are in the process of reinventing the residential building life cycle – from searching for land to architecture, engineering, production, assembling and either selling or renting.  The core of this innovation is an intelligent digital building system that uses lean principles from the automotive industry to standardize designs and efforts where possible and spend more time on the customer facing activities.

Building houses is like Legos

This platform holds knowledge about all aspects of the building process from designs to materials to processes and documents.  Many of the processes, approaches and material do not change from project to project. In fact, SWISS Property estimates that 80-90% of buildings come from same construction material.   The platform holds all of this knowledge and they can use it to create new projects – a bit like legos.   This saves time and money – and allows the company to put more value into the customers.

The company chose S/4HANA as their digital platform - they say because time, quality and cost was important.  Integration was also important – they needed something to support the whole building lifecycle. Importantly, they wanted a future proof platform to hold this knowledge and allow them to innovate and grow.

Up and Running in 2 months

Another strong driver for working with SAP and S/4HANA was the company’s tight schedule.  They needed ERP software for managing logistics and supply chain management for an urgent project – and they needed to get it up and running in 2 months.

Which they did!  Watch this company…..
