What do Sony Open Tennis and San Francisco 49ers, have in common? They recognize the need to bring a captivating experience to their fans. SAP Mobile is helping them achieve this goal using the context-aware, real-time customer loyalty, and end-to-end experience capabilities of mobile.

SAP recently created an app for the 2013 Sony Open Tennis tournament held in Miami. When it comes to the fan experience, people are looking for three things:  convenience, recognition and engagement.  The app provides tournament content, real-time scores, up-to-date news, enhanced player profiles, photo and video sharing, and a loyalty card used for purchasing food and other items. Fans more more than just what a traditional sports event provides. They want access to behind the scenes footage, key highlights, and all the stats they can get their hand on.  Using the Sony Open app, tournament attendees can take a closer look at the action through real-time videos and photos posted by other fans. Now you can live through this enhanced fan experience not just in the stadium, but from the comfort of your couch while watching a game on TV.

The San Francisco 49ers have also partnered with SAP to drive analytics derived from many different consumer touch points in the stadium. This data is used to enhance the stadium experience and also improve overall fan experience. The new 49ers stadium, which is expected to open for the 2014 season, will be equipped with public access high-speed wifi that will let fans share videos and photos in real time and even order hot dogs from their seats without missing the game. Most importantly, fans want the team to win and the scouting app helps teams scout for talent, evaluate players and make better personnel decisions.

It doesn’t just end at providing fans with real-time sports data to keep fans engaged. Using mobile technology like mobile payments, location, and precision marketing the end-to-end fan experience can be reinvented all the way from buying the ticket to exiting the stadium. You can use your mobile app to pay for your tickets, merchandise, and during the game pay for your food and parking.  With your loyalty program, you can receive personalized discount offers sent right to your mobile device. Location services will guide you to an open parking spot. Kaan Turnali describes the end-to-end fan experience in more detail in this blog post.
