As you may know, the 2013 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Mobile Application Development Platform (MADP) is out and SAP is positioned as a leader. So that being said, we (SAP) are taking our mobile leadership to sunny San Diego September 15-17 for the M6 Mobility xChange. This event is the leading hosted enterprise mobility summit for executives focused on mobile strategy, policy, and solutions to advance their business objectives, and SAP is honored to be a sponsor.
This year’s event is focused on six key vertical segments within the mobile landscape: Banking, Finance Services, & Insurance, Retail & Point of Sale, Healthcare, Manufacturing & Automotive, Energy & Utilities, and Media & Entertainment. SAP will present a use case for each one of the focus industries.
In addition to the use case presentations, SAP is participating in a huge way with a keynote, and a spot in the executive panel discussion. On September 15, opening day, Dan Mahowald, SAP VP Enterprise Mobility, will give the first keynote on how mobile is helping the world run better and improving peoples’ lives. Brilliant mobile work is improving people’s lives across the world. From mobile healthcare services to food distribution to mobile banking – SAP is playing a supporting role in helping humanity take a huge leap forward and it’s an awesome privilege to be a part of that. We talk about the adoption of enterprise mobility and how it “enhances productivity, security, mind bending growth and prosperity”. All great stuff. The real impact of mobile however is the impact it has on advancing the agenda of mankind. That’s the opportunity – we just have to seize it.

Building a Mobile first company when Legacy apps run the business.
Everyone is telling companies that they need to be “mobile first organizations but what does that mean and how do you do it? Mobile first is about more than extending your existing business processes to portable devices. Mobile changes how applications are designed. Our existing applications weren’t designed for touch interfaces. Our existing applications weren’t designed to change how much data will be displayed based on the size of the screen. In the future, applications will offer voice navigation and eye tracking. The new world of applications must consider supporting a wide range of inputs and a continuum of screen sizes. Instead of replicating what we’ve done in the past, the spirit of “Mobile First” requires us to reconsider what workflows are being used and how new technologies can make data easier to consume. The question is “How can a company be mobile first when that apps that run the business were built in the dark ages? This panel lead by Maribel Lopez will consist of customers and mobile application vendors and mobile development vendors? They will share best practices, challenges and opportunities for bridging to systems of record while building an migrating to new mobile-aware applications.
