Keeping the lights on may seem as simple as flipping a switch, but if you are in the utility industry, you know this is far from reality. For example, the 1970’s condo building I live in has three elevators and anytime the building experiences a power surge, all three stop wherever each one is. The utility company has been out numerous times to correct the situation, and at the end of the day, the aging infrastructure is part of the issue. In addition to aging infrastructure, utilities are faced with an aging workforce, increasing customer expectations, cyber attacks, and environmental regulations. Mobilizing enterprise asset management (EAM) practices can help to mitigate a few of these challenges.
Remember when you were a kid being told in school that ‘knowledge is power’? The statement invariably holds true today. Mobile technology in the hands of your workforce empowers them with everything they need to efficiently install, inspect, maintain, and repair assets in the field. With real-time access to Maximo data, your field workforce can deliver a higher level of service at a lower cost because they’re connected to one another, to the supply chain, and to the customers — anywhere and anytime. And that is just the start of the benefits from mobilizing Maximo!
