Keeping the lights on may seem as simple as flipping a switch, but if you are in the utility industry, you know this is far from reality. For example, the 1970’s condo building I live in has three elevators and anytime the building experiences a power surge, all three stop wherever each one is. The utility company has been out numerous times to correct the situation, and at the end of the day, the aging infrastructure is part of the issue. In addition to aging infrastructure, utilities are faced with an aging workforce, increasing customer expectations, cyber attacks, and environmental regulations. Mobilizing enterprise asset management (EAM) practices can help to mitigate a few of these challenges.
