Hello SAP Mobile Platform Community Members,

In order to simplify the user experience on the training webshop, SAP Education has changed the course codes specific to SAP Mobile Platform 2.3 training. This will eliminate the potential of scheduling yourselves into SUP 2.1 classes instead of the new SMP 2.3 classesby mistake. The course codes that have changed specifically for SMP 2.3 are the following. Keep in mind that the Sybase Unwired Platform 2.1 course codes remain teh same:

SUP130 --> SMP130

SUP140 --> SMP140

SUP521 --> SMP521

SUP620 --> SMP620

SUP530 --> SMP530

Please also keep in mind that when the eLearning versions of these courses are released, they will have the updated course codes as well. I have also edited this entire blog and pictures for consistency with the 5 course code changes above. Most of these changes are already visible on the training webshop, but please allow a couple of days for the webshop to complete all the changes. Thank you.

I am very pleased to announce that SAP Education has just released a first wave of SAP Mobile Platform 2.3 course updates. I would like to provide you with information in two key areas: Redesign of the SAP Mobile Platform Education Portfolio Curriculum & Catalog on the Webshop (to accommodate new releases of SAP Mobile Platform 2.3 courses and the Certifications) and the education and certification portfolio itself for SAP Mobile Platform 2.3. It has been an exciting year for SAP Mobile Platform, with SMP 2.3 having just been released in the fall and SMP 3.0 having started ramp-up in November.

Below I will give you quite a bit of information, not only about the courses and certification exams that support your work and learning initiatives for SMP 2.3, but also some learning aids and direction that may help you determine which courses and exams best meet your needs. I understand that all the information on the SAP Education webshop can appear daunting to the first comer, so hopefully this blog will help filter through a lot of data to direct you to focus of interest with the platform to get to what you need as a developer and/or administrator in the mobility area.

I will begin with a general overview of the entire curriculum and then get more granular about the curriculum design by focusing on four key areas: SMP Native and Hybrid App Development (Core SMP), SMP Metadata Driven App Development (a.k.a. SAP Agentry and Work Manager Apps), SMP Mobile Commerce Development (a.k.a SAP Mobiliser Framework), and finally Mobile Deployment, Management & Administration (SAP Afaria).

Introduction to New SAP Mobile Platform 2.3 Courses & Certifications:

Over the past several months, SAP Education has been working diligently to update its mobility courses for SAP Mobile Platform. The SAP Mobile Platform contains a wealth of tools and framework extensions as well as third-party integration capabilities that can respond to practically any design paradigm. Because of this, it made more sense to also re-design the curriculum and SAP Education mobility area on the webshop by application design paradigm (e.g. Native/Hybrid App, Metadata Driven, and Mobile Commerce) and then by participant/consultant role. You will note that the SAP Education Webshop SAP Mobility training area contains learning paths and certifications that specifically address the design paradigm choices you will make in your technical role as an SAP Mobile Platform professional. So please visit the webshop routinely, since it is one of the first places where you can get the most up-to-date information about what is available for your training needs. Here is a screenshot of the catalog’s SAP Mobile Platform groupings:

Figure 1: SMP Education Portfolio Webshop Area

In order to represent the distinction between the new and exciting SAP Mobile Platform 2.3 offerings and SAP Sybase Unwired Platform training, you will find that the webshop catalog contains an area specifically for Sybase Unwired Platform 2.1. Below is a screenshot of that grouping of the catalog, which is a continuation of the groupings you just saw in the previous screenshot:

Figure 2: SUP Education Portfolio Webshop Area

You will also notice that SAP Sybase Unwired Platform 2.1 grouping still maintains its own sub-groupings by role and will remain that way on the webshop catalog for those of you who are supporting and building mobile applications on SAP Sybase Unwired Platform 2.1.

Now, let’s get to the training and certifications specific to SAP Mobile Platform 2.3. Please note the course code changes - particularly the alpha-prefix to SMPxxx.

SAP Mobile Platform 2.3 Training Grouped by Role & Design Paradigm

You will notice that the SAP Mobile Platform 2.3 offerings are grouped not only by Role but also by mobile application design paradigm – e.g. SMP Native and Hybrid, SMP Metadata-Driven (Agentry), and SMP Mobile Commerce (Mobiliser). SAP Education believes that this will help you, our learning and certification customer, identify more easily your focal area of training and certification. Let’s begin with the training courses for architects and the fundamental MOB01 course. These courses span across all design paradigms and are inclusive of all ancillary solutions for mobile at SAP.

Architects, Team Leaders, Project Managers, Decisions Makers, Developers and Platform Administrators

MOB01, SMP130, and SMP140 arere-designed to address the current SAP mobility platform solutions within the scope of each course’s respective target audience profile. These three mobility courses make up the foundation training that you would need to determine and assess the various architectures and solutions you require. The SAP Education webshop contains the learning path with which Mobility architects focused on SAP solutions should be made aware. The three courses below cover core SMP 2.3 and the ancillary mobility products that extend the platform, such Mobile BI, Mobiliser, SAP Fiori, NW Gateway, SAP Afaria, SAP Mobile Apps, Mobile On-Premise vs. Cloud, and so on.  MOB01 is a great course to help decision makers assess and evaluate SAP Mobility solutions, while the other 2 courses (SMP130 and SMP140) are focused on enterprise mobility from the design and architecture perspectives. These courses are a critical step for the architect in helping him/her understand the business requirements, architectures and design options he/she has at hand with SAP technology. The path looks like the following:

Figure 3: Architecture & Fundamentals Curriculum

MOB01: SAP Mobile Platform Fundamentals and Best Practices: (3 days). An introduction to the SAP Mobile Platform 2.3 and the ancillary mobility solutions to support SAP’s mobility strategy and technologies. MOB01 is a pre-requisite course for all the roles, as it lays down the foundational knowledge that it assumed in the more technical courses. The MOB01 course identifies end-to-end solution options, Mobile Center of Expertise (mCoE) requirements, Mobile Application design options, key project team requirements, best practices for application design and strategic managers, and much more. MOB01 is the starting point for all learning roles, where participants will learn how to identify mobility opportunities and make strategic decisions about unwiring their organization and business processes. It is a key course in your mobility journey, and provides the information you need in order to make future decisions as to what additional training and certification is required to make you a successful SAP Mobile Platform professional. Target Audience: All roles but focused on business leaders, project managers and architects.

SMP130: SAP Mobile Platform 2.3 for Enterprise Architects: (2 days). Designed to lead Enterprise Architects through a process of assessing an organization's current “unwired” reality to defining the “enterprise” requirements for mobility. This course will assist the enterprise architect with evaluating the SAP Mobile Platform architecture that best works for him/her. Enterprise architects will learn the benefits of various SAP Mobile Platform architectures and become prepared to make more well-informed decisions as to the most appropriate deployment approach for each. Whether an organization selects SAP Mobile Platform's Agentry metadata-driven, Native or Hybrid Application or the Mobiliser mCommerce framework component or a combination of both inclusive of extensibility products like SAP NW Gateway, enterprise level architects will explore, assess, evaluate, and document their organization's solution requirements in relation to SAP Mobile Platform 2.3 and its ancillary component technologies. Target Audience: Primarily the Enterprise Architect, but very useful for the Program/Project Manager, Solution Architect, and Technology Consultant
