With the recent announcement "SAP Fiori UX and Screen Personas" are free with your standard ERP License; SAP has opened a huge area for its customers to explore. The interesting point to note is, it's not Fiori OR Personas, and rather it's Fiori AND Personas.  The fact is, that a customer can maximize on both of these UX features.

Last year SAP brought an end to the flaws of its widely disapproved user interface, when they introduced Fiori and personas. Both of them received an excellent acceptance by all the users who were bored by the monotonous complex sap screens.

SAPs new UX strategy is right in time to cope up with consumerization IT. They have very well targeted needs of both the user on the go and the functional user who needs greater options. So if you are a sales representative on the move and need a quick access to create a sales order; or if you need a detailed ME21n screen to create a PO, You can do both but in a flexible and customizable way.

Many of us are still new to this and don't know what is Fiori and what is screen personas? After all it's free, so how could we make the best use of it!!

Fiori UX:

SAP Fiori UX - The new face of SAP, is a set of 300+ standard apps, which can be installed and readily used. These apps can be used across SAP Suites CRM, SRM, and ECC etc. We have Analytical Apps that leverage the capabilities of SAP Hana.

Fiori in 3:

Simple-Adaptive-Coherent

Personas:

Personas is SAPs answer to the boring and complex SAP screens. Well we do need the complexities at times, but Personas gives you the flexibility to customize it. Personas are browser based rendering system for classic SAP screens. It's amazing how easy it is to modify element of an sap screen like removing buttons, changing background image, changing the color scheme specific to your organization, removing unwanted tabs, list goes on. And all this with NO programming knowledge at all!

Personas in 3:

Modernize-Personalize-Simplify

The optimal way to leverage on this strategy would be to explore both of the above in the scope of your project. Here's an overview of what the 2 differ in:

Fiori UX

Personas

Fiori is a set of standard apps provided by SAP across Business Suites.

Personas is rendering tool provided to customize standard sap ECC transactions as per user needs.

It is adaptable by mobiles, tablets & desktops.

Desktops only.

Knowledge in UI5 and netweaver gateway to enhance or customize standard apps.

No Programming knowledge required for personalization.

So the best situation would be to identify the key users and the functional users requirements and bring the best out of these two amazing new UX features.
