A recent research report from Ovum suggests:

“Mobile BI now appears to be on an adoption wave, aided by the perfect confluence of three underlying factors: a readily available selection of high performance mobile devices, network infrastructure that allows for rapid sending and receiving of data, and the increasing need for businesses to quickly respond to changes to stay competitive.”

Their research shows that big screen mobile devices are expected to grow from 5 million in 2008 to 74 million in 2015, representing 682% absolute growth over a seven year period.  Ovum believes mobile BI is now here to stay and is mature enough for a technology solution guide to be useful both for customers and the supply side of the market. Read more about the Ovum report on mobile BI.

How are you prepping for the mobile shift? Here are a few steps to think about to begin mobilizing your BI investments today:

1. Start by mobilizing existing BI content

Do you have Crystal Reports, Web Intelligence reports, Dashboards built with Design Studio and/or Xcelsius Dashboards? All of these common BI content types can be extended to the iPad via SAP BusinessObjects Mobile. Report content can also be extended to the iPhone and Android smartphones as well.

2. Extend your mobile reach

Search, explore and collaborate on your analysis big or small. SAP BusinessObjects Explorer has been one of the top mobile apps for business in the market for years and continues to be SAP’s top mobile app for one reason – it provides an easy and intuitive experience for end users to search and explore their data and share information with their peers via a mobile device. Watch for new updates to SAP BusinessObjects Explorer in 2013 including work to unify SAP BusinessObjects Mobile and the Explorer app experiences.

3. Look to new mobile first scenarios

A new SDK for SAP BusinessObjects Mobile will be released soon, allowing developers and partners to customize the mobile BI experience. To take advantage of even more customer mobile scenarios, look at how your organization can leverage the Mobile Analytics kit within the SAP Unwired Platform to develop customer use case mobile apps.
