Hi folks,

you might think it is still a bit early to already talk in March about TechEd 2016.

And as a matter of fact, it really feels like that.

On the other hand this year's TechEd season will already start on September 20th in Las Vegas

with later stops in Bangalore and Barcelona. For us TechEd veterans this means we need to publish

the agenda basically 4 weeks earlier than usually and by consequence forces us to collect topics right now

and run the content alignment meetings in early April.

Like last year the development track will span the NetWeaver stack with the ABAP platform at the core,

HANA Cloud Platform and HANA XS Advanced (XSA for short). Both the NetWeaver 7.5 stack and the

XSA runtime was delivered in Q4 2015 meaning we will have the opportunity to see both of them covered in

handson sessions this year for the first time. The focus will be on the respective program models and latest development tools.

The ABAP platform serves as the foundation of S/4HANA and the Business Suite EHP8. The ABAP program model

builds on the foundation of the Core Data Services with direct oData exposure and easy consumption with FIORI smart templates.

Of course you will learn how to use the tools to build your custom applications, but also learn how to extend S/4HANA applications

or manage your custom code when moving and migrating towards S/4HANA.

The XSA model builds on the notion of multi target applications that bundle SAP UI5, application and core data services

to build native HANA applications in XSJS, node.js or Java powered by the polyglot runtime of XSA. You will learn how to

use the SAP Web IDE for SAP HANA to create your development projects ready for deployment and scale.

The sessions for HANA Cloud Platform will cover a broad range of typical HCP topics including extensibility of SAP's cloud and on-premise applications,

and explore emerging topics such as IOT and Cloud Foundry which also delivered the blueprint of the XSA runtime architecture on the on premise side of the house.

To provide you with better orientation we will offer roadmaps, overview and introductory sessions. And of course many of the topics

will also be present as mini code jams and code review sessions. If you want to ramp up your knowledge for the development platforms

you can watch some of the recordings from last year's TechEd. Basic knowhow about core data services,

see Getting Started with ABAP Core Data Services and tools such as Eclipse and the

SAP Web IDE are extremely helpful these days.

Best regards,

Boris Gebhardt and Karl Kessler
