The openSAP story started in May 2013 with the vision to deliver innovative key SAP topics through a number of free courses in Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) format for the SAP Ecosystem and beyond. SAP was the first company to adopt the MOOC format to deliver learning through openSAP to a broad audience including employees, customers, partners, students and others interested in learning about SAP and its innovative technologies.

The first course, Introduction to Software Development on SAP HANA, closed in July 2013 with over 40,000 enrolments and 9,383 participants earning a Record of Achievement. Following the success of this and its follow-on course, Introduction to Mobile Solution Development for the Enterprise, openSAP has broadened its portfolio list to include business as well as development topics. Other topics delivered in 2013 included, Introduction to SAP HANA Cloud
Platform
and BI 4.0 Platform Innovation and Implementation
