openSAP launched in May 2013 with its very first course, Introduction to Software Development on SAP HANA. Since then, openSAP has delivered courses on many of SAP's innovations - SAP HANA Cloud Platform, Mobile, Business Intelligence, SAP UX (SAP Fiori and SAP Screen Personas), ABAP Development on SAP HANA, and much more. openSAP courses are available to everyone interested in learning about SAP's innovations and courses are provided free of charge. Courses are delivered in the style of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and consist of video units, discussion forum, self-tests, weekly assignments, and a final exam. Learners can complete the weekly content in their own time but if they would like to earn a Record of Achievement, they must complete the weekly assignments before their deadline. By completing weekly assignments, learners earn points throughout the course which contribute to their final score. Some courses offer learners the opportunity to get hands-on practice, especially in development systems, using cloud system environments.
A recent addition to openSAP is the opportunity to submit work for grading with the use of peer assessment. With peer assessment, learners can create a design or application to be reviewed by peers and SAP experts. This latest feature takes online learning closer to the classroom experience by allowing learners to get feedback on their work. The first course to use peer assessment was Introduction to SAP Fiori UX and three lucky winners received iPads for their submissions. The peer assessment is also part of our current course, Build Your Own SAP Fiori App in the Cloud, where the top three submissions will receive MacBook Airs for their creativity.
