Can machines communicate with each other? Will they be able to make decisions?
Not long ago such questions would have made people smile. Such things were possible in science fiction, but not in real life. Today the Internet of Things (IoT) is real and it is one of the most talked about- trends in the business world.

At openSAP we speak innovation and we could not miss the chance to host a one week course How the Internet of Things and Smart Services Will Change Society featuring Henning Kagermann, former SAP CEO and President of acatech* and Bernd Leukert, Member of the Executive Board of SAP SE.

In an informal interview, Mr. Kagermann explains the key terms and what impact the Internet of Things will have on our society. In the second part of the course Bernd Leukert focuses more on how the internet of things and smart services will affect the way we do business, what are the chances and challenges for companies.

China, one of the largest manufacturing economies, has also a strong interest in this field. Over 5 billion yuan ($800 million) has been invested already, a number which will grow in the next years. To meet the interest of the Chinese audience, openSAP has offered a translated version of the same course (联网和智能服务将会如何改变我们的社) hosted on openSAP China.

The English version of the course How the Internet of Things and Smart Services Will Change Society was open from March 25 to May, 6, while the Chinese version started on June, 10th and closed on July, 8th.

The major interest in this topic is confirmed by the amazing numbers.

Over 21,300 people have enrolled to learn about the Internet of Things and over 4,700 successfully completed the course to earn a record of achievement. Have a look at the two infographics below to learn more about the course statistics.

For those of you who missed out, the course material is still available in self-paced mode.

Stay tuned to openSAP for further innovative topics.
