More than 65% of enterprise IT organizations will commit to hybrid cloud technologies before 2016.
This is one of many studies and predictions, suggesting that most IT organizations will transform into a hybrid landscape in the next couple of years. This trend is valid for SAP’s customer base as well and we can see that our customers become more and more interested in adopting cloud solutions.
Our openSAP Transformation to Hybrid Landscapes course was designed to handle this topic and provide you with the key areas to be considered on transforming towards a hybrid landscape. The goal of this openSAP course was to give you an understanding for what running a hybrid landscape means for integration, security and operations and how you can start your own transformation journey.
The course was spanned over 5 weeks and concluded with a final exam.
- In week one, we gave you an introduction into the topic of cloud and hybrid deployments.
- Week two was dedicated to the topic of integration.
- In week three we went through the very important topic of security.
- The focus of week four was on operations.
- In the last week of the course, week five, we discussed the transformation topic and we helped you to define your transformation drivers and to determine use cases for your hybrid landscape.
The course started on July 2 and ended on August 13, 2015.
This course has been designed for IT leaders and decision makers, IT architects, technical consultants, and everyone who is interested in adopting cloud solutions. We were very pleased to see that the course attracted a large audience and many people enrolled to it.
Please take a look at the key statistics of this course:
2,955 learners were enrolled on day 1 of the course.
4,241 learners were enrolled on “half way”.
5,199 learners were enrolled when the last assignment ended.
- We have issued 788 graded records of achievement (18.6 % from enrollments on “half way”).
- Approximately 260 contributions have been posted in discussion forum.
- 14.5% of the learners were SAP employees.
- The rest of 85.5% were coming from outside of the SAP.
94.7% of the learners have maintained in their profile that they are IT professionals. The top 5 companies present in this course were:

- Capgemini
- IBM
We had learners enrolled in this course coming from more than 83 countries. The picture below shows the regional distribution of the top five countries.
Regarding the gender distribution of the learners, 13.7% were females and the rest of 86.3% were males.
The average age of the learners in this course was 37 years old, which might lead to the conclusion that the course has a high interest in a business environment.
Another interesting fact was to see whether we could keep the participants engaged over the 5 weeks of the course. The graph below shows how many participants submitted their homework per course week and the final exam.
We could notice that, from 1,240 learners that have submitted the week 1 assignment, we have “lost” only 27.3% by the end of the course. So, in the final exam we had 901 learners that have submitted the test. Seeing that the majority of the learners stayed engaged until the end, indicates that the content presented in this course was captivating.
In our “I Like I Wish” section in the discussion forum we have collected the feedback of the learners with regard to the value and the quality of the course materials. In summary, we can say that the learners enjoyed the course and appreciated that they could get insight into this new topic of adopting hybrid landscapes and what should be considered when companies aim to transform their IT landscapes from on-premise to cloud.
The course is closed now, which means that you cannot take the weekly assignments and the final exam. However, the course is still available on the openSAP platform and you can consume the materials in the self-paced modus.
