The openSAP course, Developing Mobile Apps with SAP HANA Cloud Platform, is currently running with week 4 completed and week 5 just started. Usually we create and share our course statistics at the end of a course but in this case I wanted to publish a “teaser”, to allow the course students who make up the stats to have a look at these first findings.

Some Course Details

Developing Mobile Apps with SAP HANA Cloud Platform is delivered by Jeff Gebo and Dhimant Patel from the SAP Technology RIG.

The course started on October 27 with course week 1. But 2 weeks earlier on October 13 we had already opened the gates to allow students that participate in the optional system exercises to watch four video units about the “System Setup” and to ask questions about this to our instructors and further content experts. The final exam will be opened from December 8 until December 16.

Enrollments

To date we count almost 9,900 students who enrolled in the class. Wow, this is amazing – imagine them in a classroom, Jeff and Dhimant would need to conduct the training in an arena

But let us drill down into some more details:

SAP internal and external enrollments:

We count that approximately 14% of all enrollments are SAP employees; this means that almost 86 % come from other companies or enroll privately. We read that there is a huge interest for the mobile development topic from outside SAP.

Age and Gender:

From the information that students provide we see that approximately 12 % of the enrolled participants are female and 88 % are male. The age of participants spans from 16 to 67. Great to see this broad distribution of age and interest for the mobile development course.

Graphical Distribution:

I will definitively share more details about the countries learners come from in the final statistics blog, but at least I want to provide some preliminary stats about the regions that the learners of the course come from.

In the final statistics blog I will provide more details about the countries where the participants of the course come from.

Discussion Forum and Optional System Exercises

Besides the video units, self-tests and the weekly assignments, one important element of Developing Mobile Apps with SAP HANA Cloud Platform is the optional development exercises that Jeff and Dhimant provide for each course week. Via the questions and discussion posts in the course forum you can see that many learners are participating in this optional offering.

Our course experts Jeff, Dhimant, Jamie, Midhun, and Ludo are doing a great job answering these questions. But I want to explicitly highlight that there a lot of students who support their peers by answering questions and sharing their knowledge with the system setup and the exercises. This is really amazing. Our overall impression is that the course is very active. As one example I would like to share this great blog series from Jitendra Kansal, who is doing a personal lessons learned from each week, sharing his key take-aways and tips and tricks for the system exercises. Thank you – this is great!

Please note that we deduced these results based on existing data and they are only intermediate statistics as enrollment numbers continue to grow.

At the end of the course, I will prepare a final blog post about the statistics and share it with you.
