We are happy to announce the new openSAP course Developing Web Apps with SAP UI5 starting this May. The course is a coding deep dive into the main development concepts of SAP’s powerful UI development toolkit. SAPUI5 is a collection of UI libraries that support application developers in creating enterprise-ready user interfaces based on HTML5 and JavaScript. SAPUI5 contains many feature-rich controls and implements concepts designed as part of the award-winning SAP Fiori user experience. And it helps developers ease and speed up the development of full-blown HTML5 mobile and Web applications.

The course is aimed at Web developers and IT professionals. If you took part in the “Build Your Own SAP Fiori App in the Cloud” course and want to dig deeper, this is the perfect next step. But it’s in no way a prerequisite: this is a great time to dive in, even if you didn’t take the other one. Those without much previous JavaScript experience should definitely attend the preparation week, where we’ll do our best to help you catch up or refresh your knowledge. The main four-week course is packed with exciting topics like:

  • Model View Controller
  • Data Binding
  • Formatters and Data Types
  • Connecting OData Services
  • Creating Apps from Templates
  • Making Apps Responsive
  • Updating Data
  • Unit & Integration Testing
  • Navigation & Routing.

We’ll be using SAP Web IDE - a cloud-based development environment - so no additional setup is needed to participate. Starting from scratch, we will build our own Web apps, adding more features with coding exercises step by step. Join us to understand how it all comes together and gain practical hands-on experience.

Developing Web Apps with SAP UI5 begins from May 24 but from May 17, you will have access to a “Get Started” week to help you understand the skill level required to complete the course and the exercises. This is an optional week and there are no assignments; but you can take the self-tests to check your knowledge, prior to the official start date.

Enrollment for Developing Web Apps with SAP UI5 is now open and is, as always, completely free of charge.
