By now, you know SAP S/4HANA, the next generation business suite, breaks the limits of the past with a simple data model, modern user experience, and complete choice of deployment to help our customers to reimagine their business in the digital economy.

In combination with applications such as SAP Hybris, SAP Success Factors,  SAP Ariba, SAP Fieldglass, Concur and the Internet of Things projects, SAP offers a digital value network, which interconnects all aspects of the value network in real-time to drive business outcomes.

But many of our customers are asking themselves, How do I get there? The goal of our openSAP course Implementation of SAP S4/HANA was to give them an answer to this question and to provide them with the confidence that there is a feasible path to adopting SAP S/4HANA, regardless of what their starting situation might be.

Whether you go for a new implementation on-premise or in the cloud, or you decide to convert your existing SAP ERP solution, SAP has simplified the transition to SAP S/4HANA with faster and less service-intensive adoption of innovations. SAP Activate is the innovation adoption framework and the standard way of implementing SAP S/4HANA. SAP Activate provides best practices, guided configuration tools, and proven methodologies to accelerate your time to value. In our openSAP course, we have covered these transition scenarios and showed how SAP Activate expedites SAP S/4HANA implementations.

We were somehow prepared and expected that a course on implementation of SAP S/4HANA will attract a large audience, but when we realized that we have more than 8,000 enrollments just two days after announcing the course, we said wow, this is beyond our imagination. We were very excited to start the course, to meet our course participants in the discussion forum and, at the end of the day, to see if our course will meet their expectations. Now we are happy to say that they enjoyed this course and that they want more. They expressed their wish to have a deep dive in the implementation scenarios or to provide them with more hand-on exercises, or to offer courses that focus on finance and/or logistic scenarios on SAP S/4HANA. They still keep asking, “When is the new course starting?” or “When will be this course repeated”?

But let us give you some details regarding the course structure and course statistics.

The course started on March 8, ended on April 13, 2016 and spanned over 4 weeks, concluding with a final exam.

  • In week one, we gave insight into the key innovations in SAP S/4HANA, the main transition scenarios to get there, and we introduced SAP Activate
  • In week two, we explained how to convert an existing SAP ERP system to SAP S/4HANA with minimum disruption.
  • Week three was dedicated to how to consume and adapt a new SAP S/4HANA cloud solution.
  • The focus of week four was on demonstrating how to adopt and how to adapt a new SAP S/4HANA on-premise solution.

Take a look at the numbers; they are impressive!

  • 25,252 course participants were enrolled on day 1 of the course.
  • 32,148 course participants were enrolled “half way” through the course.
  • 36,633 course participants were enrolled when the final exam ended
  • We have issued 9,447 graded records of achievement (29.4% from enrollments on “half way”).
  • Over 3,000 contributions have been posted in discussion forum.
  • 10.2% of the course participants were SAP employees
  • and it seems that the course participants were very eager to test their knowledge, since we have more than 450,000 quiz submissions (self-tests, weekly assignments, and the final exam)

96.7% of the course participants have maintained in their profile that they are IT professionals. The top 10 companies present in this course were:

  • TATA (629+)
  • Accenture (627+)
  • Deloitte (614+)
  • IBM (523+)
  • NTT / Itelligence (508+)
  • Hewlett Packard Enterprise (397+)
  • Capgemini (379+)
  • Atos (283+)
  • Wipro (225+)
  • HCL (219+)

We had course participants enrolled from more than 120 countries. The picture below shows the regional distribution of the top five countries.

The average age of the learners in this course was 36 year olds, which might lead to the conclusion that the course has a high interest in a business environment.

Another interesting fact was to see whether we could keep the course participants engaged over the 4 weeks of the course. We could notice that, from 12,252 learners that have submitted the week 1 assignment, we have “lost” only 16.4% by the end of the course. So, in the final exam, we had more than 10.000 course participants that have submitted the test. Seeing that the majority of the course participants stayed engaged until the end gives us the confidence that the content presented in this course was captivating.

In our I Like I Wish section in the discussion forum we have collected a large number of posts with positive feedback regarding the value and the quality of the course materials. We will not list all of the posts from our I Like I Wish forum, but some of them are really worth to be mentioned:

Congratulations to openSAP people for this great course! Most of my team are getting into it and heading to the final exam, as part of an initiative to getting the right to become part of "our future S4HANA team". - Carlos Parisca (NetW Consulting – Columbia)

This was one the best course I could experience for S4 HANA implementation. Simple and structured content. Easy to understand and I have confidence to steer S4 HANA project for my company. We are on ECC 6.0 EHP7 and would certainly explore the journey...” - Abdulla Fatiya

I really want to give a big thank you to all the course speakers and all persons in the background who made this course possible. I feel humbled by the professionality of this course. I really appreciate the big effort being put in place to show the different aspects of how to get to the world of SAP S/4 HANA from different starting points. I liked the content as it was from the beginning very clearly structured. The roadmap was brilliantly set out in the first week - so never got lost on the numerous presentations throughout the week… I also find the discussion forum very informative and was surprised to see how much care is taken from the openSAP team to answer all the questions with special care. Thank you for that!... the course really rocks!” - KUSOM

The course provides useful insights in the various implementation and deployment options of S/4HANA. The demos make the benefits of SAP Activate Best Practices quite tangible.” – Patricia Springer

In summary, we can say that the course material addressed the needs of a large audience and that the course participants could find the appropriate information to get confidence that there is a feasible path to adopting SAP S/4HANA.

The course is closed now, which means that you cannot take the weekly assignments and the final exam. However, the course is still available on the openSAP platform and you can consume the materials in the self-paced mode.
