For those of you that got used to tools different SAP PI log monitoring tools like Visual Admin, NWA, SAP Console it's always a bit hard to be forced to use files on the OS level in case the system is down (direct OS level access or AL11 for example). As of PI 7.1 we also have a new tool called SAP Instance Agent which is a web service for viewing logs on a Java AS systems which are not running. You can start it from any running NWA log viewer by selecting:

Troubleshooting --> Logs and Traces --> Log Viewer --> View --> Connect to remote system

Next thing you need to do is to add the hostname, port (5XX13) and select SAP Instance Agent as a protocol.

This should give you a direct access to the offline systems logs from any of your online JAva AS systems.
