SAP has Rapid Deployment Solution for PLM which makes huge sense to me being involved in SAP PLM Implementations.

In this blog I am trying to cover few points in Rapid Deployment Solution and give examples for few of the features.

Traditionally PLM (Product Life Cycle Management) which itself evolves from PDM (Product Data Management), transcends across Idea to obsolescence of product. SAP PLM is umbrella of all relevant solutions grouped together with latest offering of SAP PLM WebUI (7.0,7.01,7.02) as transaction-less web based platform.

Needless to mention implementing SAP PLM help companies to have 100% visibility in all product development and introduction processes and helps to take informed and calculated decisions during each stage of product cycle.

It helps in reduce waste, improve lead time significantly, improved operational performance, collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and as observed excitement among engineering community to work on this exciting PLM platform! .

SAP has listed following as scope Items in this deployment solution.

Work and Control Center

Web user Interface

Workflows

Embedded Search

Product Viewer

Personal Object List

Access Control

Of above some of key items I would like to highlight are

Web user Interface : SAP PLMWebUI offers Portal based PLM Functions to be accessed through Web / NWBC which is seamlessly integrated with classical master data. It also offers Engineering Records Management for thorough ECR / ECO stage gate Engineering Change Management Process. It also give infinite options using SAP WebDynpro technologies to offer very effective and extremly good value adding customization.

Workflows : Using Process Route is a winning solution, as it gives complete freedom to end user to design his own workflow instead of going to complexities of classical workflow configuration. Further with BO classes available for process route there are endless possibilities of automating the whole process of Process Route.

Embedded search : Its been a breakthrough as Embedded search is truely a 'Google' like search for all the SAP PLM Objects, you need a TREX to be configured and indexed and do necessary configurations for embedded search. Again you can enhance embedded search to accomodate custom fields you have defined for your PLM objects.

Product Viewer : Is right option over old ECL Viewer for PLMWebUI, with security certificate installed on your system you can view 2D, 3D files, documents, pictures etc within PLMWebUI, do redlining etc.

Access Control : Though sometimes its not very easy to set up access control , but with due dilligence we can you access control to setup right security along with classical authorisation concepts to collaborate with internal and external users.

SAP suggests implementation time as less as 8 weeks using their step by step guide.

I will continue seeking more information in this area and would like to apply this knowledge in my work.

Any suggestions , view points welcome!
