Many Public Sector and Utility clients depend on SAP business software to manage mission critical processes such as supply chain, logistics, capital assets, finance, grants, customer relationships and linear assets.

Additionally, SAP is now offering these industries new software functionality to address rapidly growing process support requirements in environmental sustainability, situational awareness and public safety.

All of these processes or functions have one thing in common: They are location intensive.  Or in other words, in order for stakeholders and knowledge works to be armed with the proper insight to make effective and timely decisions, and to fully leverage the core SAP functional capabilities, they need to know where things are (material, people, parcels, assets, outages, delinquent tax payers, risk, emergencies, etc.)

Government Agencies and Utilities have historically made significant investment in GIS software, such as that from Esri Inc., to bring geospatial intelligence to traditional civil engineering, public safety and regulatory compliance processes.

These same clients are continually looking for ways to improve and enhance their SAP business processes. Up until now, GIS integration was achieved using bi-directional synchronization at the master data level. The new gold standard SAP is bringing to market brings business process relevant data from the GIS environment natively into the SAP business system landscape and more importantly allows for the extension of tables for any data object, master or transactional, to be extended with location attributes.

Map-based business processes and location-based analytics on an integrated data set is now available to SAP business system users, mobile field workers, as well as GIS engineering professionals via an engineered service called GEO.e.

Imagine bringing location awareness to SAP applications and enabling business users to start processes, visualize, filter and search for objects on a map.  Examples of objects in this case can include assets, property, tax liens, fraudulent transactions, tax delinquencies, grant requests, citizen service requests, emergencies, incidents and more.

Maps materially contribute to an improved user experience!

The ability to drive business processes from a map anywhere and from any device fundamentally changes for the better how users interact with their SAP applications by:

  1. Embedding maps and spatial content in SAP enterprise applications to improve business processes
  2. Providing intuitive spatial 5D (X,Y,Z, time, data) navigation
  3. Extending spatially-enabled business processes to field workers
  4. Adding location as a critical attribute to analytics to drive better decision making

  1. GEO.e is live and in production at number of client sites including;

  • A US-based power utility
  • A Dutch province
  • A European agribusiness

Several other clients will go live with GEO.e in 2014 in both Public Sector and Utilities.

SAP and it’s certified partners can install GEO.e., and provide mobile and GIS systems integration.
