One of the things that deployment teams struggle with is finding out what happened on similar deployments that they are involved with. They could, for example, go to TechEd or the SAP User Group meetings to network and interact. They could also read the latest book from SAP Press called: Rapid Deployment of SAP Solutions.

There are 17 actual deployment case studies, written for consultants—telling what deployment teams do to have a smooth deployment that is on time, within budget, and meets the project scope. There are Supply Chain Management (SCM RDS) case studies that are presented in this book as well.

Questions You Want Answered

Sure, the book includes SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions. And while a lot has been said and done on these packaged solutions that contain software, best practices and services, you might wonder:  how do actually all the bits and pieces fit together? The SCM case studies answer a lot of questions. For instance, it tells you what to do when it comes to finding an enabler for smarter blueprinting, faster configuration based on best practices, or building up a demo system. Why does the RDS approach change the way we implement? What is a pre-assembled RDS and which role might RDS play in the cloud? How can I explore and deploy the solutions that best fit to my business purpose? Which customers have used RDS and what has been there implementation approach? And how can partners engage and profit from RDS?

You will find answers to questions like these in the newly published book: “Rapid Deployment of SAP Solutions” from Galileo Press.

Moreover, it is not just the most comprehensive compendium on the models, methods, tools, and technologies around RDS, but it is also full of customer deployment case studies, including those of SAP SCM RDS customers.

SCM Case Studies Might Help Your Deployments
Case Study – Update Demand Planning without Business Disruption:  shows how a German  consumer products manufacturer used SAP Demand Planning rapid deployment solution to lower inventory, increase reliability to their purchasing departments, and improve service levels – especially with respect to articles with sporadic sales patterns. Using RDS as a demo or sandbox system helped to effectively demonstrate the scope and contents of the solution. Once having decided on the scope, project accelerators – including for configuration – implemented during the holiday season significantly minimized business disruption. RDS could eventually help this customer to reduce unexpected rush notices and order, minimize excess production quantities and inventories, ease planning execution for each individual sold-to-party.

Case Study /Transform Demand Planning and ATP, Fast: The second case study talks about how a midsize Italian industrial manufacturer managed to evolve from manually-based planning activities to a sophisticated planning process and infrastructure by applying SAP Demand Planning rapid-deployment solution and the SAP Global Available to Promise rapid-deployment solution in only 17 weeks. Learn about a deployment team that used a phased deployment strategy and their substantial success factors for project success – resulting in in reduced planning activities by around 70 %. Just think—a deployment that frees up resources by 70%. Those are commendable results.
