Data migration is a major task and key for a successful SAP implementation. SAP Rapid Data Migration with SAP Data Services enables you to migrate your data, ensuring your data can be trusted by the users and is ready for business process execution within SAP systems. You know that already pretty well when you have followed my earlier posts.

In case you are interested in data migration tools even more in detail than just the basics I'm covering in my blogs, there is a new edition of the SAP PRESS book Enterprise Information Management with SAP.

How does that fit together?

SAP Data Services, the underlying tool that is used for the Rapid Data Migration packages is part of the SAP Enterprise Information Management (EIM) portfolio. And this ETL tool (Extract, Transform, Load) is one of the major topics in our new edition of the EIM book published by SAP PRESS.

The book not just covers SAP Data Services and SAP Information Steward in detail, it also contains an entire chapter about Rapid Deployment Solutions (RDS) in EIM. The Data Migration section contains all the necessary migration steps from the connection to the legacy source system(s), the mapping of the data fields, the transformation of the data values, the validation of the data records, and finally the data load to the SAP target system. It also includes tips and tricks for SAP Data Services which makes it a very good reference guide for any data migration project.
