Save downtime -  great way to do rapid database migration of SAP Business Suite to SAP HANA

Time is money – that is especially true when a customer has to shut down a system! Business downtimes cause significant costs, impact daily business and are therefore among the biggest challenges for an IT project. For customers facing this challenge due to migrating to SAP HANA we have now a solution: Rapid database migration of SAP Business Suite to SAP HANA offers a brand new “downtime optimized approach” that realizes the migration in minimized time!

The “downtime optimized approach” will reduce the downtime of the Database Migration Option (DMO) procedure. It integrates the SLT technology to enable the migration of selected (big) application tables during uptime processing of DMO, thereby using this option for the biggest tables of the system can decrease the system downtime tremendously.

During uptime processing, the source system is still available for end users. End user activity in the system may change application tables, so if these tables have already been migrated to the target database (SAP HANA database), the changes have to be recorded and transferred to the target database as well. The SLT technology (SAP LT REPLICATION SERVER) offers the required technology to set triggers on the respective application tables to create log entries, frequently analyze the logs, and transfer the delta to the target database. The SLT technology is part of the DMIS AddOn.

It even gets better with the “RDS Database Migration Cockpit”. The “RDS Database Migration Cockpit” is a SAPUI5 browser based application which supports the database migration activities with helpful information for Project Manager/Project Team and the Database Migration Experts. The cockpit is subdivided into three KPI blocks:

System Status
Shows the status of different database migration activities across the system landscape

Runtime Estimation
Offers the possibility to simulate the overall update and database migration time according to migration specific parameters

Runtime Information
Is the central point of monitoring the systems involved in the database migration. This KPI block gives real-time information about CPU/Disc utilization, Memory Consumption, Network Traffic
