The future is NOW!

Only one month into 2015 and I'm reminded of the movie Back to
the Future. This movie franchise was the big budget summer blockbuster of its
day, back before action trilogies became status quo. And Part II has the main
character traveling forward in time 30 years from 1985 to... 2015!

Now that we're actually in the year 2015, it's a lot of fun revisiting the 1980's
movie version of this year. Of course, as the saying goes, hindsight is 20/20.

It can be easy to look back and have a good laugh at how off a movie version
of the future can be. And coincidentally, while writing this blog, I'm on my way
to SAP Innovation Days: an SAP event to discuss the latest innovations
in technology and business.

But back to the inevitability of a movie (or almost anyone) getting so much wrong
when trying to predict the future 30 years from now...
Unlike Back to the Future's version of 2015, we don't have flying cars,
hoverboards, or self-tying shoes as part of life today. And what really stood
out to me while revisiting the movie is just how easy it is to completely miss
the biggest innovations impacting our daily lives until they are already here:
the Internet, Mobile, Cloud, In-memory database, Internet of Things etc.

Luckily (or rather, very purposefully), we here at SAP are constantly striving
