Did you know that SAP is our own best customer?  It’s true!  We are proud to say that SAP IT runs some of the largest and most sophisticated SAP software implementations. For a solid four days between SAP TechEd Las Vegas and Amsterdam events, we set out to help tell some of the amazing stories of how the SAP IT organization implements and optimizes SAP technology for our own employees, customers, and partners.  We thought you’d like to know that we face some of the same challenges you face with large scale implementation projects. Our experts are excited to share their experiences, tips, tricks, and best practices for implementing our own software. Using multiple social media channels such as Twitter, LinkedIn, and Google+, we reached you in your active networks, and also brought you to new ones. Social media is a growing world connecting people wherever they may be. We produced a variety of media and engaged with a number of thought leaders to tell the SAP Runs SAP story – and to show how SAP is its own first and best reference customer.

Thank you to everyone who participated and played active roles listening, commenting, and tuning in. We had an overwhelming response and thoroughly enjoyed the week. Here is a brief overview of the stories we created and shared with your contribution.

The highlights were our first ever SAP Runs SAP Google Hangouts. See the replays here:

With guests Martin Heisig, Christian Horak, and Schalk Viljoen from SAP, and Ed Cone and Adrianna Gregory from Oxford Economics , this hangout focused on how cloud has changed the business already, how it will continue to do so and what this means for SAP and other organizations.

This hangout  featured star guests Mike Golz, CIO Americas, and SAP Chief Marketing Officer Jonathan Becher. Trends such as cloud computing, the consumerization of IT and the Internet of things are changing the role of the CIO in dramatic ways. These create both a challenge and an opportunity for the CMO and CIO to work more closely together to better meet the needs of customers, employees, and shareholders. Mike and Jonathan discussed how the two worlds can support each other and push the business forward.

During the Decathlon, we posted a huge range of content on various topics:

Mobile

Thomas Saueressig launched his mobile blog series, giving insights into how the mobilized enterprise should look. In the second blog, he talked about how SAP is setting up employees as its first customers. In the third, he gave an overview of the specific details a mobile-enabled company needs to think about.

Jos Houben posted on his experiences using a Windows tablet with SAP Mobile apps and how that is changing the way he works. Adriana Gregory posted two research papers on Cloud Platform trends. One detailed how companies are putting mobility to work, while the other focused on how companies are setting their mobile strategy with a customer focus.

Milja Gillespie posted a blog on how SAP Mobile Documents is helping companies share business information securely. Top quote: “When you about think it, access to content such as documents, spreadsheets, videos and presentations is core to most people’s every day job. It is the lifeblood of every business. Content is king. It is leveraged in many mobile applications and also stands alone in its importance.”

HANA

Martin Heisig launched his HANA blog series during the Social Media Decathlon. The series details SAP’s internal journey to HANA and posts include Sales Pipeline on HANA, Shortening Quarter End with the COPA Accelerator and Enable real-time analytics with BW on HANA. We also posted a great video, featuring Helen Arnold discussing ERP on HANA.

Analytics

In Analytics, we learned how to Customize your layout in SAP BusinessObjects Design Studio

Applications

Steffen Weber posted a two-part blog series on internal adoption of SAP Screen Personas. In part one, he overviews how SAP used SAP Screen Personas to redesign the Accrual Cockpit for marketing users, while in part two, he details the technical process the team used.

Cloud

We had some great cloud content! Sahil Shah wrote a post on the business and technical reasons for companies to justify a move to the cloud. Adriana Gregory posted a number of research papers on Cloud Platform Trends. One detailed the importance of understanding security and risk in the cloud, while another showed that Cloud security is a challenge, but businesses can take steps to reduce risks. A third research paper looked into what’s next for the cloud, while a fourth showed that small and midsize enterprises are using the cloud effectively – but they could do more. In a paper called The rewards of integrated platforms, she demonstrated that the reward from open and integrated cloud networks is a return on investment thatis greater than the sum of its parts.

HR

Under the HR topic, we were able to showcase some great SAP Runs SAP success. Caroline Lewis and Liz Brenner showed how SAP employees are able to build their personal brands using SuccessFactors’ Personal Profile.  In a post called Using Jam to Run at Our Best!, Caroline also demonstrated how SAP Jam has become the go-to collaboration space for SAP employees. We also linked to a great video: SAP Cloud for Travel and Expense – The Day of ERP Integration
