Martin Heisig is SVP in Cloud & Infrastructure Delivery at SAP AG and board member of the Open Data Center Alliance. At the Cloud World Forum MENA conference in Dubai on April 14+15 he spoke about both roles. How SAP Runs SAP, the new SAP Data Centers and why the ODCA is important for customers and vendors.

In this video Martin explains why SAP runs data centers, what services are available and who benefits from this solution:

Ok, but what's about security? How does the SAP data centers look like? Does SAP has certificates for the data centers? See how SAP is running SAP business systems in the HANA Enterprise Cloud:

“The cloud is of vital strategic importance to SAP, both as a cloud consumer and as a market leader for enterprise cloud solutions,” said Martin Heisig, senior vice president, Cloud & Infrastructure Delivery, SAP AG. “SAP has made significant investments in the cloud in the last few years, and we recognize that joining the ODCA is important in helping us evolve our cloud solutions. On the other hand, we believe SAP can contribute to the ODCA work with the experiences we have gained so far.”

The Open Data Center Alliance was formed in 2010 as a unique consortium of leading global IT organizations. The Open Data Center Alliance is working actively to shape the future of cloud computing — a future based on open, interoperable standards. The membership includes more than 300 companies spanning multiple continents and industries. All companies who share the vision of seamless, secure cloud computing are welcome.

The organization has released over 25 Usage Models and requirements documents focused on enterprise cloud computing and big data and including Compute Infrastructure as a Service (CIaaS), Cloud Based Identity Governance and Auditing, Data Security, Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS),Scale-out Storage and Software Defined Networking (SDN). These Usage Models have been instrumental in the development of new products from cloud vendors and solution providers and when specified using PEAT, ODCA’s online Proposal Engine Assistant Tool, have proven to dramatically streamline enterprise cloud RFP (Request for Proposal) processes.

As a board member of the ODCA, Martin Heisig invited to discuss these opportunities so that we can all benefit from the ODCA’s work: enterprises through the use of services that meet the criteria set forth by the collective work in requirements documentation and providers through accelerated adoption of solutions.
