This week I attended the annual SAP Insider Logistics & Supply Chain Event in Orlando. This event is co-located with sister events for CRM, Procurement, PLM and Manufacturing and resulted in a total attendance of over 2000 practitioners from around the US and beyond. I was happy to see that over 800 of the attendees were there for the Supply Chain event.

Sunday saw the traditional pre event Jumpstart Day which gave the attendees an opportunity to get a head start on the conference and learn about specific topics of interest.

The 1st Day was kicked off by Sanjay Poonen (President & Corporate Officer, Global Solutions, SAP AG), who gave an entertaining keynote (2012: Time for New Growth) to the joint attendees of all 5 events. Sanjay made the session very interactive and informative by inviting 2 customers (Bentley and Cemex) on stage to share their experiences as well as including several demonstrations of new capabilities in the SAP portfolio.

The day 2 keynote (Trends and drivers impacting supply chains and the processes that help them run better) was presented by Hans Thalbauer (Senior Vice President, Line of Business Solutions for Supply Chain and R&D) and me. This keynote explored the most prevalent trends and drivers impacting supply chain executives. We then discussed how these trends are shaping the SAP supply chain roadmap and strategies in the areas of:

  • Integrated Sales and Operations Planning
  • Demand Management
  • Collaborative Response Management
  • Manufacturing and Supply Planning
  • Supply Chain Execution

We explained how these strategies can build a framework which allows companies to master the supply chain challenges (I will be writing a blog expanding on these concepts in the next week or 2).

This event is one of the largest supply chain gatherings of the year. Over the 4 days, the attendees then had the opportunity to attend over 200 breakout sessions across 11 supply chain tracks delivered by their peers, consultants and SAP experts. This included the full breadth of the Supply Chain landscape:

I am always amazed at both the quantity and quality of every session and would like to thank the SAP Insider team at WISPUBS, all the partners and especially the customers that make this event such a success year over year. .

There will be a second event held in Prague for our European customers running from April 25 to 27. To learn more click on the link.

I will be there.... Will you?

In the past 3 weeks I have attended 2 excellent supply chain events in North America. The 2 events were the Supply Chain Customer Value Network (CVN) meeting in Newtown Square and the SAP Insider Logistics & Supply Chain Conference in Orlando. They attracted over 1000 Supply Chain executives and practitioners and 220+ presentations from SAP experts, consultants and most importantly, experts from the SAP customer base.

This is the 1st of 2 articles I will be writing to give an overview of these conferences. In this article I will cover the SAP Supply Chain Customer Value Network Event.

SAP Supply Chain Customer Value Network (CVN) March 6th & 7th

The event was kicked off by the event chair, Dave Strothmann in front of a “standing room only” audience of over 300 people attended from 97 individual companies. Dave introduced the SAP team assembled to help the audience and thanked the numerous partners who supported the event.

Dave also introduced a new Supply Chain Survey that has been initiated in 2012.  This survey is designed for SAP SCM customers to quickly complete in 5 and 15 minutes (depending on the number of SAP SCM modules implemented). The results of this survey will be aggregated and used by SAP Solution Management when planning future product roadmaps and evaluating investment decisions. I encourage you to click on the link to take part in the discussion.

The opening session was followed by five heavily attended and very interactive hands-on workshops:

  • Supply Network Collaboration: Deep-Dive Workshop
  • Extended Warehouse Management: Deep-Dive Workshop
  • Inventory Optimization: Best Practices Workshop
  • Transportation Management: Deep-Dive Workshop
  • Next Generation Sales and Operations Planning Powered by SAP HANA

Day 2 was kicked off with a keynote from Hans Thalbauer, Senior VP of Solution Management for SCM and PLM.  Hans talked about some of the business trends and realities affecting supply chain executives today, and how these challenges are influencing the SAP supply chain solution and future roadmap.

The audience then brock into three tracks of presentations focused on

      • Supply Chain Planning
      • Supply Chain Execution
      • Supply Chain Collaboration and analytics

These tracks included presentations from several SAP experts and customers including:

      • Conair
      • Dow Corning
      • Harry & David
      • Indigo Books & Music
      • JMC Steel Group
      • Medtronic, Inc.
      • Novus International Inc.
      • NVIDIA
      • Virco Manufacturing Corporation

Several articles that have been written to date about some of the end user presentations.

If you are a supply chain executive using SAP in North America this event is a great opportunity to meet your peers from a multitude of industries and backgrounds. Everywhere I turned there were conversations and discussions going on and everybody seemed happy to share their experiences with others.

There are 2 more CVN’s in the works for Chicago and Palo Alto in 2012.  Watch this space for more information……
