Part 1 of this blog made two reality-based assertions:

  • Cloud computing has enormous potential to transform business
  • Cloud adoption has reached critical mass, so organizations that don’t take bigger strides towards adoption run the risk of never reaching the same level of benefit achieved by organizations that do.

But does this mean that your businesses should hop on whatever cloud implementation train is moving the fastest?

Certainly, traveling to the cloud quickly would be advantageous, but not without first considering what additional benefits the trip can bring to your business. In other words, if you travel to the cloud, it would be nice to take a big bag of value – like in-memory computing technology – along with you.

Pushing the envelope with SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud

Cloud is an apt name for a technology capable of offering extensive benefits to companies who might not otherwise consider themselves capable of achieving them.

It’s pretty obvious that SAP thinks the same. So much so that it has moved SAP HANA– its revolutionary in-memory computing platform that brings super-accelerated, real-time functionality to Big Data analytics, business applications, and data services – to a cloud environment.

As a paper from the advisory organization capioIT explains, with its SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud offering, SAP provides a fully scalable, comprehensive, secure cloud infrastructure that allows customers to run SAP applications in a managed, private SAP HANA cloud platform environment. This includes SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA, SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse powered by SAP HANA, as well as cloud solutions from SuccessFactors (an SAP company).

A critical differentiator to note is that SAP has lifted the isolation approach to cloud deployment by enabling select partners to bring their own offerings to the SAP HANA cloud platform deployment table.

Keeping it real

SAP HANA adds an even more dynamic perspective to the already transformative nature of cloud technology. As the capioIT paper points out, the reality is that the value of an SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud deployment lies in its ability to let organizations view their business information with a sharper eye and faster lens. The paper underscores its point with use cases from a variety of SAP customers.
