What does change mean in a real organizational set up? What are the positive and negative forces one should take into account when driving the transformation? These are the questions Lalit Jagtiani, the Business Transformation Specialist with a focus on IT enabled transformation and Business Transformation Academy Lead for Asia Pacific and Japan, addresses in his new book “The Challenge of Change” which will be launched in March 2015. Here are some highlights from the radio interview, moderated by Rob Lllewellyn, where Lalit gives a pretaste of his book.

First, people often treat transformation as a conceptual serie of templates and methods overseeing the real ”art” of dealing with challenges that are faithful companions of any organizational change. Second, the challenges are not a topic people like to talk about in case studies and success stories. To fill this gap of practical insights into the real change management, Lalit puts his professional experience into the fascinating world of fiction: his novel of change has its main character, an employee who is asked to drive transformation in his organization and has to overcome a lot of challenges in a best tradition of a classical plot. For example, the main character who is excited about his new task encounters the problem how to make the transformation meaningful to the organization, how to convince peers and senior management to go through the change, how to deal with the political pressure within the organization, etc. So the book is an entertaining and easy read on the one hand with fundamental professional knowledge on the other hand.

Based on his 25 years transformation experience and the stories of other consultants, the author gives examples of the real-life transformation cases and the key success factors such as:

  • knowledge about the worst case scenario: what happens if things go completely wrong?
  • effective communication
  • personal value for each and every employee who is going through change

…and many more.
