First off, a big thank you for the feedback I received in part 1.  If you happened to miss that post, you can read it here . We ended the last blog sharing some helpful tips and tricks to assist you before you access the SAP Support Portal.  Now we will focus on the view from within. This is part 2 in a series.

Keeping with the FAQ theme, this second post will focus on profile related questions, notifications, and single sign on (thank you shengtao.tan!).

My Profile

The My Profile area of the SAP Support Portal can be reached directly via quick link http://service.sap.com/myprofile. There are  6 main sections.  Each of these sections has an important function, and I will share them in the following order:

  • My Personal Data - allows you to view and edit your contact details (especially important if you are logging messages!  We want to make sure the support engineer contacts you via correct information)
  • Change my password – self explanatory
  • Maintain my single-sign on certificate – allows you to log into the SAP Support Portal without logging in with your S-user ID and password
  • Display my authorizations  - authorizations unlock certain access to applications within the SAP Support Portal
  • Display my Super and User Administrators- administrators can provide you with additional authorizations if you need it
  • Maintain my Notifications and Newsletter Subscriptions – sign up for legal change notices, top Notes, and Spotlight News just to name a few

My Personal Data

My personal data is just what it sounds like.  This area shows you the contact details associated to your profile.  The following fields can be edited by you under Communication Data: Department Title, Telephone, Fax, Mobile Phone, and Email.  There is also another section in personal data called Other Communication Data.  This section can be modified by you if the country where you are located is not the same as the country listed in Communication Data.

Maintaining your contact details is especially important for message solving.  If the incorrect contact details are listed in your profile, it makes it difficult to get a quick response back to you from support.

To maintain your contact details, click the Edit button.

Once you make the appropriate updates, click Save.

Change Password

To change the password associated to your login ID, click the Change my password link on the left hand navigation under My Profile.  You can also change your password under My Personal Data by clicking on the Change Password tab.

Enter your current password, then enter your new password twice and click Change password.  You will get a popup window confirming your password has been changed.

If you receive a message stating your password could not be changed, you will see this:

Please contact the Customer Interaction Center (CIC) if you need assistance resetting your password.  They can be reached at http://service.sap.com/supportcenters if you are logged in to the SAP Support Portal or http://service.sap.com/contactsap if you are not able to access the SAP Support Portal.

Maintain my Single Sign-On Certificate

Creating a single-sign on Certificate, also known as SAP passport, alleviates a lot of the headaches regarding remembering your S-user ID and password login.  To create a single sign-on, click the link Maintain my Single Sign-on Certificate on the left hand navigation under My Profile.

The SAP passport is installed in your browser, saving you from having to enter your User ID and password the next time you access the SAP Support Portal.  To enable single sign-on, simply enter your password in the box and click Apply for SAP Passport.  For questions on the process, please read How to benefit from single sign-on.

*Good to know*

  • You can install single sign-on if you have several user ID’s – Read this for more information
  • The single sign-on certificate expires after one year, so make sure to take note of your S-user ID and password.  You can find out how to uninstall and reinstall in the How to benefit from single sign-on document.

Display my Authorizations

To view the authorizations that you have assigned to your user ID, click on the Display my Authorizations link on the left hand navigation under My Profile, or click the Authorizations tab under My Personal Data.

To understand which authorizations are required to access certain functions within the SAP Support Portal, check out section 1.3 Available Authorizations in the User Data Administration documentation

Display my Super and User Administrators

If you find you do not have the required authorizations to access certain areas of the SAP Support Portal, you will need to get in touch with your companies super administrator to get these additional rights.  To find out who your super administrators are, click Display my Super and User Administrators in the left hand navigation under My Profile.

You will see a list of User Administrators, and a list of Super Administrators.

User Administrators can assign authorizations, but they are limited to the authorizations they have assigned to themselves.  If you need multiple authorizations, it is always good to get in touch with your Super Administrator.  Their name, user ID, email, and phone number are shown in this page.

*Good to know*

You can have multiple super-administrators for your company.  There are no limits.

Maintain my Notifications and Newsletter Subscriptions

The final section we will cover is the notifications and newsletter subscriptions.  You can access this area on the left hand navigation under My Profile.

In this section, you can update your email and mobile numbers, define how you want to be notified when support responds to a message, and select a schedule and topics that you are interested in receiving via email.

The SAP Hot News, SAP BusinessObjects Notifications, SAP Legal Change Notes, SAP Security Notes, and SAP Top Notes all require additional steps to set up the notifications.  By clicking on the Define Filter box to the right of the area you are interested in adding, you will be guided through the steps to set up your subscriptions.  Don’t forget to save your changes when you are done.  If at any time you would like to remove notifications, you can click the Unsubscribe button.

*Good to know*

Here is a how-to video that guides you through the steps of setting up SAP BusinessObjects notifications
