In this new round of promoting SAP Expert colleagues we have chosen our mate Ludek, from GSC Canada.

  • Hi, Ludek!. Can you tell us something about you and your background?...

I was born in Prague. Came to Canada in 1969. Married almost 25 years to a wonderful girl from Argentina (World Cup: go Argentina go!). In 1984 I completed my B. Sc. in geology, then a Secondary School teacher degree in 1986 and a Computer Science diploma in 1994.

  • How long have you been working at SAP, Ludek?

I have been working at SAP… well, November 24 it will be 20 years. I started with what was then Crystal Services -> Crystal Decisions ->Seagate Software -> Silver Lake Group -> Business Objects - > SAP

Since SAP acquired Business Objects five years ago, I have penned over 600 KBAs, probably a 100 blogs, close to 80 Jive Documents and about 60 wikis.
I also like to be active on the SAP Idea Place as this is where customers with the products I support can provide information about improving the products. My most successful document (SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio Updates & Runtime Downloads) was published in December 2010 and to date it has had over one million two hundred thousand views. That’s one view every 90 seconds(!).

  • What about your interests?...

My interests – still the frustrated scientist – read, read, read. Almost anything science related, but with a particular interests in Astronomy, Nuclear Physics, Geology / Paleontology and Human evolution. May sound impressive, but they are just interests. As soon as things get into the nitty gritty I run… I have two wonderful kids. My son graduates high school this year. His interests vary from veterinary to auto mechanics, so he’s got some serious deciding to do. My daughter is an aspiring hockey player. Her biggest achievement was playing on the winning team at the BC Winter Games in January 2014. Her next hope is to make a Major Midget team come August.

This picture is from our March Hawaii vacation.

  • What inspire you to share  all this good stuff with our customers and colleagues?

What inspires me? I’ve always rooted for the underdog. I also passionately believe that information is the most liberating force in the universe. Putting the two passions together on SCN was like the proverbial “fits like a glove” thing. For me, the two really do fit.

The products I work with for the most part are not considered Enterprise products - some are a free downloads, some may cost a few hundred dollars. These customers do not have support contracts and thus I see them as something of an underdog. Now, take the underdog and the information and you have the hand, that needs the glove. Weird? Maybe, but that is my inspiration.

Thanks a ton for taking the time to answer our questions, Ludek. We've enjoyed the interview!!
